So how is your Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, or S26 Ultra unit feeling and performing after installing the Android 17-based One UI 9 update? That's what I expected a few months ago to be able to ask you right about now, but unless you live in South Korea, the question unfortunately still doesn't apply to any owners of a Samsung device released before the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8.
One delay is already official, others are likely to follow
When the Galaxy S26 family's stable One UI 9 rollout began (for beta testers) in South Korea, I speculated that it was merely a matter of hours until other countries and regions would join the party.

That wasn't just wishful thinking, mind you, relying on historic events from the last few years, but evidently, something is different this time around. The signs were not particularly encouraging from the beginning, as Samsung kept the One UI 9 schedule awfully vague across Europe, the US, or India while only confirming a couple of exact dates in Thailand (of all places).
What's worse is one of those dates has been (quietly) revised since last week, as the Galaxy S26 trio missed its manufacturer's self-imposed September 21 deadline for unspecified reasons. Samsung's latest non-foldable powerhouses are now slated to leave One UI 8 behind on September 28, which for the time being is also the local target date for the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7.

Is that a realistic goal? Almost definitely not, but at this point, I'm sure many Samsung fans would be delighted to see at least the S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra updated on September 28 and all the other aforementioned devices delayed by a week. Of course, this looks like the absolute best case scenario right now, as additional delays for everything from the Galaxy S26 family to the S25 series and Z7 series could still come.
What exactly is the hold-up?
That's another big problem: no one knows and no one can know because Samsung isn't communicating on the matter in any way and on any channel. As you can imagine, that's making a lot of Galaxy users understandably angry, and in fact, many folks on Reddit seem more bothered by the company's silence than the actual rollout delays.
Google released Android 17 on June 16th by the way, so Samsung is only almost 4 months late :) on the latest flagship device. S25 and S24 will be pushed into early October, so 4 months late. Insane how we pay so much only to receive updates almost half a year later.

Some Redditors and long-time Samsung fans are already having flashbacks of the One UI 7 fiasco of late 2024 and early 2025, and although that's also understandable, it's clearly premature to fear that catastrophic bugs and multi-month setbacks are on the horizon yet again.
Last year's One UI 8 update, remember, went off (almost) without a hitch, so at least until Samsung confirms the nature and magnitude of its One UI 9 issues or until a few more weeks go by without much movement on the stable rollout front, we should continue to keep our fingers crossed for a repeat of that rather than the One UI 7 debacle.

Of course, Samsung doesn't share those sentiments, hyping up the update as the enabler of an "easier, more seamless mobile experience across form factors", as well as "enhanced Galaxy AI that is richer, more personal, and more helpful."
Now, whether you're impressed or underwhelmed by those features and improvements, my advice is always to install the latest software updates on your phone to keep it as secure and as fast as possible. But first, maybe wait a few days after Samsung actually releases One UI 9 to make sure the bugs aren't too numerous or serious.
