It’s been a couple of weeks since Motorola announced the lengthy list of devices that are going to receive Android 17, which includes the Razr Fold, Razr Ultra (2026), Motorola Signature, and tens of other phones. Now the company is finally sharing details about the changes coming with the update.
These are all new features Motorola phones are getting with Android 17
Motorola’s version of Android 17 will come with various updates, including a refreshed interface, an upgrade to the Quick Settings menu, and expanded cross-platform file sharing. According to a report by FoneArena (which is unrelated to us), the update will also include device management features, and AI and anti-scam security protections.
Probably the most noticeable changes will be made with the interface and usability of the software. A Motorola changelog names the following changes:
System Layout: The update introduces a refreshed Quick Settings panel and redesigned system menus featuring larger touch targets and streamlined navigation.
Display and Personalization: The home screen interface has been updated alongside refined display settings, including enhanced HDR brightness management.
Widgets: Interactive widgets now support snap-scrolling functionality for smoother browsing within smaller screen footprints.
Accessibility: Vision settings, display scaling, and screen magnification have received structural updates to simplify control adjustments.
Connectivity and privacy updates are also part of the package

Beyond the visual changes, Motorola phones are going to get the option to use Quick Share to send files to iOS devices with AirDrop. The software will also bring Instant Hotspot and Nearby Audio Streams features, allowing easier tethering setup and quick audio broadcast to adjacent compatible devices.
On the AI side, Motorola is getting the Circle to Search feature, which will allow its phones to utilize the visual lookup tool. Part of the package are also automated scam detection and security locks, with the devices also getting smarter notification management tools.
In a separate page on Motorola’s support portal, the company also shares the broader changes that are part of Android 17. Those aren’t unique to its devices and include things like the stackable widgets, themed icons, notification organization features, and new sharing features in Connected devices.

Even with the official list of changes, there’s little clarity about Motorola’s real plans for the Android 17 rollout. The list the company originally shared included the unannounced Edge 70 Neo, but misses older devices that are supposed to get updates, like some Edge 50 models, Edge 60 Neo, Razr (2024), and others.
This is especially concerning because of Motorola’s poor track record with Android updates. While it would be a great idea for the company to clarify its plans, it’s very likely for this to never happen, even with some devices already getting the update.
How important are the software update promises when you buy an Android phone?
On the other hand, several people on Reddit have reported that different Moto phones are getting Android 17, including owners of the Motorola Signature and the Moto G57 Power. This is giving some of the brand’s fans hopes that the company may finally change its ways, since it’s launching the update just two months after it landed on the Pixel 10.

Way to go, Motorola
Even the best Android smartphones are far from offering the software update experience iPhone users have, but things may be getting better. I remember the days when it took almost a year for any non-Google device to get the latest Android version, and now it’s down to just a few months.
The only thing that’s left for Motorola is to improve its communication, and provide longer software support.
