More Sony Honami images leak out, confirm a 20MP shooter again
Leaks may eventually ruin the surprise of new smartphone announcements, but we're, nevertheless, going to enjoy them while we can. Sony's upcoming flagship, the Honami, is no stranger to the aforementioned two-edged blade – there's hardly a nook left that hasn't been brought to our attention.

Today is no exception, as we once again get yet another look at the Sony Honami. The brushed metal beneath the glass plating at the rear that we've come to recognize Sony with is there, and so is the 20MP shooter.

As you probably know by now, the Sony Honami is going to follow the current design language of the Xperia line. In fact, except it being slightly taller than its predecessor, the Xperia Z, the Sony Honami sticks to its brethren in terms of looks.

A phone that wants to compete with the best cameraphone in 2013 cannot lack an optical image stabilizer. I don't care about the 20mp, look at the Nokia 1020: it has 41mp but to deliver its super-sharp pictures it downsamples them to only 5mp...

it's downsampling to either 3, 5, or 8MP. 8MP is good enough if you want larger photos.

It has a far small sensor to compete with the 1020 and the lack of Xenon flash is another let down.

well its too early
the sensor size has not been officially confirmed by sony
so sensor size is still officially unknown
excluding rumours....

Such a small camera on the top end corner, i bet the sensor is even smaller than Nokia N8's sensor, not to mention absence of xenon flash.

lack of a xenon flash is a big let down for a camera-centric phone

in my opinion It is NOT a competitor to the lumia 1020 coz it is not MEANT to compete with it. its more likely a competitor to the galaxy S4 zoom and the S4 and iP5 cameras. this is meant to be the best camera on an android phone, not a smartphone.

...and you obviously still don't understand the idea behind 41 mpx monstrosity..please, read a bit before commenting

I'm sorry, but where is it written that the Honami is exclusively a camera phone meant to compete directly with the Lumia 1020? From the leaks we've seen, this is a flagship Android smartphone designed to compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S 4, HTC One, LG G2, etc. Just because it has a better camera than every other Android smartphone doesn't mean it's supposed to compete against the Lumia 1020.

You are halfway correct. The secret sauce to Nokia cameraphones is not the sensor only, though.

The critical ingredient is the Carl Zeiss specialized lens.

I have observed this in the better Nokia cameraphones that the ones that do have the Carl Zeiss lens tend to perform better and have excellent IQ.

Also another factor is the Xenon flash. A serious cameraphone must have a Xenon flash and a mechanical shutter to go with it.

Nowadays they do away with these critical components and instead they compromise by using BSI instead of FSI, smaller sensors, narrower pixel pitch, anemic LED flash and electronic shutters.

Unless they do it the Nokia way, they will utterly fail.

I would love to have an Android version of Nokia 808 PureView Pro *OR* a 2013 Android hardware (Quad Core, 2GB LPDDRAM3, 64GB, 720p AMOLED Clear Black Display, etc.,) on the Nokia 808 PureView Pro.

A flash will not be required when you have a bigger sensor, as ther will be plenty of light falling even when at low light conditions... A Xenon Flash or any other flash it may be will make the picture look flat... there will be no difference between the object and the background and both will lie on the same line (No 3D effect)... That is why top end DSLR's do not come with a flash attached, since most photographers will not use them with a full frame sensor or they will use light reflectors...

True, but Honami has a quite small sensor. Because of that a xenon flash would have been welcomed.

I think this time Sony will be good in their camera dept. as their phones are not that great shooters e.g. Xperia Z.

The Exmor RS in Xperia Z is good actually, it's the software that ruins it. Sony has addressed this in a update. The S4, Oppo Find 5 and the Lenovo K900 uses the same sensors.

i'll take this one over the 41 megapixel etc. by nokia. nokia lumia 1020's camera maybe better, but android on sony i1 is hundrd times better than wp8 for me.
