Just yesterday, leakers were locked in on May 9 as the magic date for One UI 8.5's stable launch. Samsung apparently had other plans, because the official rollout is starting today, and the supported device list is already locked in.
Samsung confirms the rollout kicks off today
Samsung made it official today: One UI 8.5 begins its stable rollout on May 6, starting in Korea, with additional regions to follow shortly. The update is built on Android 16 and brings Samsung's latest Galaxy AI features across the entire ecosystem.
The headline feature is AirDrop support through Quick Share, which finally bridges file transfers between Galaxy and Apple devices. Samsung is also pushing a refreshed design with a new floating tab bar and a cleaner pill-shaped UI for apps like Phone, Gallery, and Clock.

Samsung beats its own rumored timeline
Just yesterday, a leaked Canadian roadmap suggested the stable build would land on May 9 for the Galaxy S25 series. That makes today's announcement feel like Samsung quietly trolling its own rumor mill, in the best way possible.
It should be noted that this is a phased rollout starting in Korea, however, so US owners may not see the notification on their phones immediately. Patience is still part of the deal, but the finish line is now officially in view.
Why this matters more than just another update
This is Samsung's chance to prove it learned from the One UI 7 fiasco. That update dragged on for nearly half a year and gave Pixel fans plenty of ammunition to throw around at every opportunity.
By starting the rollout days earlier than rumored, with a wide device list that includes 2024 flagships from day one, Samsung is making it clear this cycle is different.
Worth noting before you start refreshing
Samsung delivered when it said it would, slightly ahead of the rumor cycle's expectations. That alone is worth recognizing after the One UI 7 mess put a real dent in Galaxy fans' trust.
If you're outside Korea, hang tight for a few more days. Once it lands, expect a smoother ride than last cycle, because the wide beta testing across older devices was a clear hint that stability was the priority this time around.
