Galaxy S25 may finally get One UI 8.5 this week. | Image by PhoneArena
Samsung has been running the One UI 8.5 beta program for the Galaxy S25 devices for quite some time now, but we’re yet to get the stable release. After the rumored early May release didn’t happen, it seems we may finally get the update in the coming days.
One UI 8.5 may launch for the Galaxy S25 on May 9
Samsung may release the stable version of One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S25 phones on May 9. Tipster @theonecid shared on Twitter what may be the software roadmap for the release in Canada.
The chart claims that One UI 8.5 will be available on the four Galaxy S25 devices, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. While users of the Galaxy S25 Edge never got access to the beta, the device is also listed in the release schedule.

It was always clear that the Galaxy S25 would get One UI 8.5 before the rest of Samsung’s older phones, but the update for the Galaxy S24 is also expected soon. A Samsung community moderator said in a comment shared by Galaxy Updates on Twitter that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will receive the newer software “shortly after” the S25 series.
While only the S24 Ultra was mentioned, it wouldn’t be surprising if the whole series gets the update at the same time, alongside other 2024 Samsung phones.
Nothing is set in stone
Considering that none of the rumored launch dates have come from Samsung, you shouldn’t have firm expectations. We’ve already seen several beta versions of One UI 8.5 for various older Galaxy phones, so the stable release shouldn’t be very far off.
How long is an acceptable time to wait for a software update for you?
Another important caveat is that all those dates are rumored for the Canadian market. Users in other countries may start receiving the update before or after those dates, depending on various factors. In any case, checking for software updates in the coming weeks could finally reward you.
Worth the wait
One UI 8.5 has various interesting improvements, including new AI features, better privacy settings, and new design elements. Probably the biggest highlight is the AirDrop support over Quick Share.
Considering Samsung’s history with the One UI 7 delays, I wouldn’t be surprised if we need to wait a bit more. Still, I hope the update finally launches soon.
