Apple may be focusing on its September iPhone launch right now, but the development of next year's anniversary iPhones isn't slowing down. The latest leak suggests Apple's anniversary iPhone could look very different from today's models.

We first heard about the iPhone 20's screen size upgrade just a few weeks back. Now, those claims are back with a few additional details.

According to established leaker Digital Chat Station, Apple is currently developing two big changes for the iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max displays.

Reportedly, the Pro model might feature a 6.4-inch panel, up from 6.3 inches on the iPhone 17 Pro. The difference is small, but it'll still result in a slightly larger device.

The leaker claims Apple plans to keep the same aspect ratio, so the display might grow proportionally rather than simply becoming taller or wider to accommodate the change.

Digital Chat Station also brings back the rumors of a 7-inch panel on the iPhone 20 Pro Max. Like the Pro model, this one is reportedly keeping the same aspect ratio fans have grown accustomed to.

Finally, the Chinese leaker corroborates earlier leaks that suggested the anniversary devices might feature a bezel-less, quad-curved design. Those rumors first surfaced earlier this year, and we've covered them back in May.

More power-efficient displays

An earlier report indicates that Apple may not just be planning to increase the display size. Supposedly, the tech giant is developing a major upgrade to the technology that powers the OLED panels.

ETNews claims (machine translated) Apple could introduce a new display driver chip, which handles how pixels work on the screen. Currently, the company is using a 28nm manufacturing process, but the new chip could be developed on the 16nm process. This could make the iPhone 20 Pro display significantly more power efficient.

All of these changes could make the anniversary iPhone a much more compelling upgrade, as well as help Apple maintain its leading position in the industry.

If all of these rumors turn out to be true, the anniversary iPhones will indeed look dramatically different from what we're used to seeing. But could that make them more exciting than the brand's first-ever foldable?

It remains to be seen, but it's certainly possible. After all, we're talking about an anniversary release, and Apple will surely do everything in its power to drive up the hype for the September 2027 launch.

For now, we'll have to focus on the September 2026 release and the launch of the iPhone Ultra.

While I'm personally excited about the anniversary iPhones, I'm not entirely sold on the display upgrade yet. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is a big phone already, and making the screen bigger will only add to its size (and possibly its weight).

Even if the visual experience is significantly improved, I doubt everyone will want a phone that's even harder to use with one hand.
