Samsung has quietly brought the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE back to life in the US; but why?

This is a completely unexpected rebirth for an undeniably overpriced and largely unpopular 2025-released foldable.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few months, you probably already know that Samsung is preparing not two but three distinct foldable devices for a (presumably joint) announcement later this year.

Of course, if you paid close enough attention to the company's 2025 product launches, you might also be aware of the existence of a Galaxy Z Flip 7 Fan Edition alongside the significantly more popular Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 models. The budget-friendly clamshell didn't generate anywhere near as much excitement as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is expected to produce this summer, which is why Samsung seemingly made the unprecedented decision of retiring the device mere months after its commercial debut... before weirdly reviving it again.

So is the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE dead or not?

I guess that depends a lot on your definition of the word "dead." Technically, the affordable flip phone was never (officially) discontinued, simply going out of stock on Samsung's US website way back in October 2025 and recommending prospective buyers to either sign up for email notifications of what then seemed like an unlikely return to life or go for an undeniably superior Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Believe it or not, what initially felt unlikely and slowly became inconceivable has actually happened, as out of nowhere, the Z Flip 7 FE has recently popped back up on sale stateside in a single 128GB storage variant and two colorways.

Whether you prefer the black or white model, you can once again order the $899.99 foldable through Samsung's official US e-store and hope to receive it by Mother's Day. Still, I'm not sure I'd call this a rebirth because...

Why in the world would anyone get this device right now?

After the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, S25 FE, S25 Edge, Tab S11, Tab S11 Ultra, Tab S10 FE, Tab S10 FE Plus, Tab S10 Lite, Tab S10 Plus, and Tab A11 Plus all got price hikes in one or several variants last month, I'm well aware that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE could have (theoretically) followed suit and go even higher than $899.99.

Should Samsung release a Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE this year?

But this was always an undeniably overpriced product, and with the "standard" Z Flip 7 frequently marked down to... $899.99 by retailers like Amazon, it makes zero sense for Samsung to bring the Fan Edition back at the same price tag. Clearly, this thing needs a massive discount to stand a chance against the likes of the "vanilla" Motorola Razr (2026), Razr (2025), and yes, the Razr Ultra (2025), and for what it's worth, that's precisely what you can currently find on Amazon.

Specifically, the e-commerce giant has the 256GB configuration of the Z Flip 7 FE on sale at a whopping $360 off its $959.99 list price in a black hue at the time of this writing. The only problem is Amazon is not actually in charge of selling the heavily discounted handset, and doing business with a third-party merchant is not always wise.

Could we see a Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE released soon?

Considering that the rumor mill has been completely quiet regarding such a product all these months, I don't think so. But given that the "regular" Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to be "slightly pricier" than last year's Z Flip 7, it would definitely make sense for Samsung to try the Fan Edition route again and actually give the next budget-friendly foldable a chance at mainstream popularity with a lower price point, stronger marketing, and better availability.

After all, there's a very good reason why Motorola came so close to ranking first in US foldable sales last year, and if Samsung only focuses on keeping the iPhone Ultra at bay with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Wide, the company might see both its gold and silver medal positions in this crucial market segment threatened before long.
