The Z Flip 7 is undeniably gorgeous, but the Z Flip 8 is likely to be even prettier. | Image by PhoneArena
Because the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has managed to outsell the Z Flip 7 around the world, and perhaps more importantly, because Apple has apparently chosen to go with a book-style design for its first-ever foldable device later this year, there's clearly a lot more attention around the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 (and the Z Fold 8 Wide) than the Z Flip 8.
But that doesn't mean Samsung's next big clamshell-type foldable is to be completely ignored, especially after a new rumor out of South Korea (translated here) detailing some of its "subtle" yet potentially game-changing upgrades over last year's still pretty well-reviewed Galaxy Z Flip 7.
The weight reduction may not be as drastic as once expected
You didn't really think that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 would tip the scales at 150 grams, as (wildly) reported several months ago, did you? Hopefully not, because if you allowed yourself to dream with your eyes open about that super-unlikely number, you will undoubtedly be disappointed to hear that the 2026 flip phone is now tipped to weigh 180 grams.
It's not super-obvious in these leaked renders, but the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is likely to be slimmer than the Z Flip 7. | Image by MyMobiles
Then again, that's 8 grams under the Z Flip 7's weight, as well as a whopping 19 grams less than Motorola's state-of-the-art new Razr Ultra (2026), which certainly sounds like a solid engineering achievement on Samsung's part.

On the not-so-bright side of things, of course, the Z Flip 8 is widely expected to retain the 4,300mAh battery capacity of its predecessor, thus falling way short of the aforementioned second-gen Razr Ultra flagship (and, unfortunately, even the new "vanilla" Razr) in that department.
Bye-bye, crease; hello, slimmer profile!
Whether you consider the above information good or bad news, there's no viewing what I'm about to tell you in the following lines in a negative light. Yes, it's looking more and more likely that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will incorporate a "crease-free design structure", which almost definitely means that the Galaxy Z Fold 8's display crease will also go away.

This has clearly become less and less of a pain point for Z Flip-series and Z Fold-series users over the last few years, mind you, but some owners still complained a crease was visible (especially after a few months of daily use) on the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8's predecessors, messing with their otherwise gorgeous designs and premium build quality.
Another undeniably positive aspect of the Z Flip 8 is that its overall thickness will allegedly be reduced by 0.5mm (in folded form) compared to the Z Flip 7. That's certainly not a drastic change, but it's also clearly better than no change, shaving the handset's profile down from 13.7 to 13.2mm (compared to the chunky 15.7mm waist on the 2026 Razr Ultra, for instance).
What would make you more likely to buy the Galaxy Z Flip 8?
None of the other dimensions are technically mentioned today, but the product width is said to be set for a "slight" increase, just as it was rumored a few weeks ago. Back then, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 was rendered with a nearly identical design to its predecessor but slightly revised 166.8 x 75.4 x 6.6mm and 85.4 x 75.4 x 13.2mm measurements in unfolded and folded form, respectively.
How much could the Galaxy Z Flip 8 cost?
It might feel a little early for such discussions or predictions, but with these "subtle" changes almost etched in stone after multiple reports pointing in the same directions and virtually no upgrades expected on the screen sizes, resolutions, camera, battery capacity, and charging fronts, I believe it's fair to anticipate only a small price increase over the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

I know what you're thinking, but I'm afraid it's not very realistic to expect absolutely no price changes for a 2026 device with a (slightly) better design than its forerunner. As such, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 could well start at $1,150 or $1,200 in the US, possibly retaining the recently revised $1,300 tag of the Z Flip 7 in a 512GB storage configuration.
Will the Z Flip 8 be a hit?
Now, that's definitely too early to know... and it's also important to define the word "hit" before attempting to answer the question. What I can pretty much tell you for sure is that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will not exceed the (early) sales numbers of the long-overdue iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold), and eclipsing the mainstream popularity of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 might prove challenging as well.
The affordable Razr (2026) might be the Z Flip 8's toughest competitor. | Image by Motorola
But perhaps the most crucial battle will be against the likes of the Razr (2026) and Razr Ultra (2026) in markets like the US, and if you want my advice, I think you should go for Motorola's new non-Ultra clamshell and not look back. Yes, the Z Flip 8 will be sleeker, thinner, and more powerful, but the price gap will surely not be (entirely) justified.
