Are you looking for an affordable new alternative to last year's Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Pixel 10 Pro Fold stateside? It appears that your search will continue after the Razr Fold's impending release as well.

That's because Motorola's first-ever book-style foldable is officially set to cost only $100 less than Samsung's Snapdragon 8 Elite powerhouse with 8 and 6.5-inch screens in tow, and that's before you consider all the astonishing Z Fold 7 discounts of the last few months... that the Razr Fold may or may not match in the near future.

Let's quickly refresh our memory with the key Motorola Razr Fold specs

And now for the big reveal

Are you ready? I'm not sure you are, but here it goes anyway. The Razr Fold's recommended US price is... drumroll, please... $1,899, with pre-orders scheduled to begin May 14 and actual sales kicking off exactly a week later at Best Buy and Motorola's official regional e-store.

Compared to the $1,500 tag rumored before the handset was internationally unveiled back in January, this is obviously shockingly high, but of course, a lot of things have changed for the Razr Fold and the mobile industry as a whole since then. Because the Moto G Stylus (2026) recently made its debut at a higher price than its 2025 predecessor and the rest of the Moto G (2026) family got pretty substantial hikes in the US just a few weeks ago, it shouldn't be that surprising that the Razr Fold is this expensive.

The product's official €1,999 European price also made it abundantly clear last month that there was no way for Motorola to keep the US mark down to $1,500 or $1,600, and all in all, I think we should be happy that the Razr Fold doesn't cost $1,999.

What are the Razr Fold's advantages and disadvantages over the Galaxy Z Fold 7?

Technically, the Z Fold 7 is a little costlier than its new rival, at a list price of $1,999 and up. But finding probably the best foldable device in the US at $1,700 and even $1,600 has become pretty easy of late, so clearly, Motorola will need to put the Razr Fold on sale at a discount of $200 or $300 shortly after its release to stand a chance at gaining (further) market relevance.

That being said, it is important to point out that the most affordable Galaxy Z Fold 7 variant only packs 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage space while the Razr Fold comes in a single configuration with 16 gigs of memory and twice as much local digital hoarding room.

Those are some pretty major advantages, but unfortunately for Motorola fans, the Razr Fold employs an inferior SoC compared to the Z Fold 7, looking to compensate for that disadvantage with a significantly heftier battery, as well as faster (wired and wireless) charging.

The Razr Fold's screens are also a little bigger, sharper, and brighter, while the imaging battle is... complicated, as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 undoubtedly wins with a 200MP primary snapper, but its challenger hits back with (theoretically) superior secondary and tertiary rear lenses, as well as better (also on paper) front-facing and cover cameras.

So should you buy the Razr Fold after all?

I actually don't have a definitive, blanket answer for (all of) you today, as you're clearly looking at a powerful, well-balanced, and yes, extremely handsome foldable device here... that could have been perfect at a slightly lower price.

Check that, it still can be perfect if Motorola is wise enough to knock it down to $1,600 or $1,700 by the end of May, which seems unlikely but is definitely not impossible. Not when last year's ideal Razr Ultra clamshell is somehow still on sale at a measly $799.99 with 1TB storage and a free pair of Moto Buds+ included.
