T-Mobile continues to experience major network issues across the nation

For the second time this week, T-Mobile is down for (at least) a few thousand nationwide users, and many people are saying their network wasn't reliable at all since Monday.

Do you know that July 27 T-Mobile outage the "Un-carrier" claimed to have fully resolved by July 28?

Well, it's now July 30, and even though many impacted customers seemed willing and eager to put this latest incident behind them after receiving proper compensation for their troubles, new issues appear to have already cropped up again for a not-insignificant number of users in a bunch of states and major cities (particularly on the East Coast).

What seems to be the problem this time around?

As always, user complaints vary from person to person and from place to place, but many of the problems reported on Downdetector between around 6 and 9 am Eastern Time this morning (July 30) concern T-Mo's 5G Home Internet network (not again!), with hundreds of customers however also claiming their mobile phones are getting no signal either.

Basically, you've got at least a thousand people here left in the dark by Magenta as far as both wireless and home internet services are concerned, and because some folks in this situation might not be able to access the Downdetector website or social media for obvious reasons, one can safely assume the new issues are far more widespread than that.

The number of online complaints is also rising by the minute at the time of this writing, and with the West Coast still largely asleep, we may not be able to assess the true scale and seriousness of this latest outage for a few more hours.

Where is the outage concentrated... for the time being?

  • Chicago;
  • Atlanta;
  • Columbia;
  • Dallas;
  • Washington;
  • New York;
  • Boston;
  • Oklahoma;
  • Hawaii;
  • Houston.

Those are just some of the places with many confirmed reports in the early hours of Thursday morning, and while something tells me the issues could still spread like wildfire to more cities and states, that already looks like a major (quasi) nationwide outage.

For what it's worth, the number of complaints is lower (at least for now) than what we saw on Monday, July 27, but again, that can change over the next few hours. And generally, these issues tend to become more serious before they're eventually fixed.

Could this new incident be connected to the July 27 outage?

That's obviously impossible for me to say right now, but what I can tell you is that T-Mobile never came out with an explanation of the root cause of Monday's nationwide technical issues, and some users complained all through Tuesday and Wednesday that their wireless service continued to be spotty or completely unreliable.

That strongly suggests Magenta might still not know exactly what caused the previous outage or how the underlying network issues can be resolved once and for all, which is likely to send shivers down the spine of more than just a few thousand users across the nation.
