Although a couple of years ago it was hard to believe that you can put Microsoft, Skype and iOS in the same headline, it's now common to talk about these three entities in the same news. That being said, it looks like Microsoft announced a new update for its messaging application, which is supposed to integrate many
iOS 10 features into the Skype experience.
With the addition of SiriKit, users who call someone on Skype has become simpler than ever. The new feature allows users to simply say the name of the person they want to call. Siri is likely to ask for you to confirm it has the right contact, so tap to confirm and the Skype calls is initiated.
Microsoft also confirmed that it will extend the SiriKit feature to its Skype for Business for iOS beginning October, but an exact release date has yet to be announced.
Additional improvements have been made to Skype contacts, which are now stored right inside the iOS device. The integration of Skype contacts into iOS will make it easier to initiate Skype video calls, audio calls, or even Skype IMs since you won't need to open the application first.
Also, the developers state that since Skype benefits from CallKit within iOS 10, all incoming Skype calls will now show up just like regular calls, thus making it easier to switch between or answer Skype and regular calls using the built-in iOS functionality.
Just like the SiriKit feature, the CallKit functionality will be extended to Skype for Business on iOS devices sometime next month.
Naturally, in order to take advantage of all the new features Microsoft announced, you will have to download the latest version of Skype for iOS via App Store.
