Alto's Odyssey: an endless runner that will mesmerize you

For those of you that often visit the “games” section of the Play Store or App Store, the name Alto's Adventure might ring a bell. It's a 2D sidescrolling endless runner / platformer that has you controlling a skiing daredevil across some of the most beautiful 2D terrain we've seen in a while.

Alto's Odyssey is sort of a sequel to that game. Or, in the case of endless runners — it's more of the same, but in a desert setting this time around. And we don't mean that in a bad way — we welcome the new environments and their lovely red-to-purple hues.

The gameplay is pretty simple and intuitive — you tap once to jump or tap and hold to perform tricks while in the air. The music and sound effects sound as soothing and gratifying as the terrain you are traversing and the game is an almost meditative visual trip.

If you like a bit of grind in your runners, Alto's Odyssey will provide you with challenge rules for your runs, which will require you to perform specific tasks in order to get some bonus. If you'd rather just spend some time to zone out and relax — the game has a Zen mode, which drops all the rules and limitations.

Alto's Odyssey is currently only available on iOS for $4.99. We would assume that an Android build will be coming at some point soon. But if you happen to be on Android and have not tried the old Alto game yet — give it a spin, it's free to play right now!
