Chrome and Gmail just teamed up to target the most annoying part of online forms

It's the kind of change you won't notice until the next time you check out online.

Google Chrome's enhanced autofill is getting an upgrade and is now able to suggest details that are pulled straight from your Gmail as you fill in things like order numbers, tracking info or flight bookings. It starts rolling out today to the US only, and will be available on desktop Chrome, as well as the mobile version of Chrome, whether you're on an Android such as the Pixel 11 Pro or an iOS device like the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Chrome autofill says goodbye to tab switching

Google announced today in a blog post that its enhanced autofill can now pull suggestions from Gmail. It runs on Gemini with Personal Intelligence, and surfaces right when you need it, so you won't have to switch tabs and search your inbox anymore.

The feature won't reach everyone at once and does require that the user have Gemini with Personal Intelligence enabled.

Enhanced autofill saves you from having to save info first

Regular Chrome autofill will only fill out what you have already saved in Chrome. In late 2025, the feature got a bump when it began to accept Google Wallet items like flight info, passport, driver's license and vehicle info. However, until now, everything had to be saved somewhere first.

Gemini with Personal Intelligence changes this by being able to check your connected Gmail for information that you never saved. The enhanced autofill suggestions will show in the usual autofill dropdown, except you will see them clearly marked with a "Suggested by Gemini" label.

Google says sensitive data is encrypted, and Chrome settings let you turn enhanced autofill on or off and choose what it can access. Personal Intelligence is also an opt-in feature, so it requires your approval and connection to Gmail before it can do anything.

Anyone not eligible to get the features, meaning those outside of the US or those who have not opted in to Personal Intelligence, will still have access to the classic autofill. This likely also applies to those on Workspace (work and school) accounts since Personal Intelligence wasn't offered for those types of Google accounts at its March launch.

This will probably be very helpful for those who see themselves hunting down order numbers or confirmation emails mid-checkout.

A welcome Gemini in Chrome addition

If I shopped online and handled returns often, I'd be turning on this feature in a heartbeat, as order numbers are probably the most common reason to dig through emails. I am personally looking forward to the Google Photos expansion Google says is eventually coming, as I am curious how well it will be able to read that type of information from a photo or a receipt.
