The middle of the week hasn't even arrived yet, but the best piece of news is here already. Remember those pesky scalpers who went and pre-ordered a ton of iPhone Duo units?
Yeah, the joke's on them, as it turns out. Thanks to the way Apple's first-ever foldable iPhone has been breaking (more on that in a moment), the aforementioned scalpers are losing money. They have seriously undercut the asking price for the Duo because people, having witnessed the problems with Apple's foldable, have naturally backed off from purchasing one right now.
Ah, joy!

It's always good news when something bad happens to bad actors and this hilarious turn of events reminds me of the genius that scammed scammers ("Do not redeem the card!").
I don't know what scalpers are saying right now, but reports from China state they're forced to undercut the price seriously for the iPhone Duo. For example, some sellers have brought down the price of the 1 TB model of the phone by over $400 since Friday (when the Duo was launched).
Sure, once prices began falling, some brave-enough customers went and took the bite, so interest rebounded slightly.
Back on October 16, when the iPhone Duo pre-orders went live, it was a digital massacre and scalpers secured vast quantities of Apple's debut foldable. Then they went and tried to resell them at a much higher price.
Yeah, the complaints about broken screens and faulty hinges on the four-day-old iPhone Duo just keep piling on.

But why is it breaking?

As we reported mere hours ago, it could be the case that some iPhone Duo units come with faulty hardware—or at least oddly positioned components that cause severe display and hinge damage.
Apple acknowledged the problem today in a statement to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the publication's chief Apple correspondent. The company said it was aware of inner-display issues affecting a small number of iPhone Duo units and advised customers experiencing the problem to contact AppleCare for a replacement.
Apple stressed that most units were unaffected and that the defect typically appeared soon after it occurred. However, we don't know how many devices it considers a "small" number and I desperately want to know.
I remember that Samsung's first foldable attempts were also shaky, but a fragile foldable in 2019 or 2020 was something acceptable. But in 2027? Yeah, no.
