Motorola is preparing its boldest US phone launch in years — here’s why it’s going to cost a fortune
Motorola is gearing up to launch its next US flagship - the Motorola Signature 27. But the starting price might be an issue.

Motorola is gearing up for a triumphant return to the US flagship scene with the Signature 27. But the latest leak suggests that the flagship will carry an eye-watering price tag of around $1,600. This puts the model in a tough spot, competing with the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Motorola's next big flagship popped up in a listing on Portuguese retailer MegaPC. The phone was officially unveiled during Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit back on September 22, but the starting price of the flagship has remained a mystery.
The listing on MegaPC reveals a starting price tag of €1,594.90 (~$1,773 after direct conversion), which is on the pricey side. But given how prices are formed in Europe and across the ocean, we're looking at a starting price of around $1,600.
What will US customers get for that kind of money?
Motorola unveiled the Signature 27 with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset back in September, while also sharing some of the specs of the upcoming flagship. The Portuguese listing mirrors the official specs unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit, with a couple of extras.

The phone is listed with 12GB of RAM and a generous 512GB of onboard storage, complementing the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. The camera system is built around the 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 main sensor, the company's first LOFIC-equipped sensor.
There's also a 200MP periscope telephoto supporting Super Zoom Pro — up to 100x zoom levels with some AI assistance. That's a step up compared to the 50MP telephoto of the first Signature.
The phone will be the first Motorola device to feature Audio by B&O and will be available in two color options — PANTONE Coal Smoke in Tactical Weave and PANTONE Capulet Olive in a brushed, textile-inspired finish.
Finally, Motorola is promising seven years of software support, matching Samsung and Google flagship offerings.
2026 is the year of the wide fold form factor, and it appears that Motorola has its own competitor in that particular field. The rumored Motorola Razr Flex 27 was also listed on the same site, citing two colors, a pretty interesting price tag, and some specs.
The first listing details a Pantone Coriander Razr Flex 27 with a starting price of €1,510.90, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The second listing mirrors these specs and price, but comes in a different hue — Dark Botanical Garden.
Motorola is apparently hopping on the wide fold train, as this Flex 27 device is expected to be different from the Razr Fold, as well as cheaper. The Fold launched in Europe at €1,999.99 and in the US at $1,899.99.
Let's start with the good news. The Motorola Razr Flex 27 is shaping up to be a good alternative to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 when it comes to the new wide form factor. There are a couple more Android alternatives, like the Huawei Pura X and the Xiaomi 18 Fold, but they're not available in the States.
At around $1,499, the Razr Flex 27 could be a hit for people who want to try that new form factor but don't want to fork out nearly $2k.
Now for the bad news: the Signature 27 is a tough sell at $1,770, and even at $1,600 if we assume the US price tag will follow a similar conversion rate as the Razr Fold. That's a lot of money for a Motorola phone, and the company has been trying to break into the flagship business for quite some time now — remember the $999 Edge+ from 2020?
The Signature 27 will have to compete with the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is expected to start at a similar price point (around $1,599), and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is significantly cheaper at $1,299.
