Verizon's $50 unlimited pre-paid service is now Unleashed on the public
Why, is was just the other day when we brought to your attention, photographs of some handsets hanging around Best Buy in a blister package. The name on the packaging said Verizon Unleashed which we told you would be Big Red's $50 unlimited pre-paid service. Today, Verizon has officially,uh, unleashed the service which is now available.

The new Verizon Unleashed web page confirms the pricing that we passed along in our earlier story. The pre-paid plan will cost you $50 a month for unlimited talk, text and data. But before you stop and ask yourself why you are locked into a higher rate for 2 years with your contract, the phones that are available for Verizon Unleashed are not exactly the smartphones that you might be used to owning.

Right now, three featurephones can be purchased for the service.  The LG Accolade ($40), Pantech Caper ($80) and the LG Cosmos ($100) are the three handsets currently available for the pre-paid offering. The Verizon Unleashed $50 monthly service includes unlimited texts to Canada and Mexico. Just to give you a 'heads-up', the fine print on the web site reveals that the Mobile Web available on the service is not 'full web browsing'.
