Motorola unveils two Honeycomb tablets: XOOM 2, XOOM 2 Media Edition arrive first in the UK
The Motorola XOOM, the first Honeycomb-running tablet, wasn't exactly the most successful one out there, but that didn't stop Motorola from announcing two new tablets in the XOOM family today: the Motorola XOOM 2 and the Motoroloa XOOM 2 Media Edition. Both new tablets are based on Honeycomb 3.2 and are coming soon to the UK.
The Motorola XOOM 2 has a 10.1-inch screen, just like on its predecessor. It's reinforced with Corning Gorilla Glass and Motorola's own splash-resistant coating for even better protection. Under the hood, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor brings plenty of software muscle and there's 1GB of RAM to back it up. All of that is packaged in an ultra slim 0.35” (8.8mm) body and spiced up with a very durable battery delivering around 10 hours of battery life.
The Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition is the smaller of the two with a 8.2-inch display. Here, the promise is for wide viewing angles, better, virtual surround sound and multiple speakers.
The tablets will be sold at Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy, Dixons, PC World and Currys in the UK in mid-November. Pricing will be announced soon. We also imagine that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update should be in Moto's plans for the future, but we'll confirm that as soon as we get an official statement from the company. The display is brighter and more vibrant than before with colour enhancement, and the edges have been strategically designed to make the tablet more comfortable to hold -- this tablet is easy on the eyes, and easy on the hands. It is compatible with the optional Motorola Stylus that is great for note-taking, hand-writing emails and sketching.
