UPDATED:Google serves Donuts to Android developers
Google has released the Donut code to developers. The upgraded OS is designed to work on all existing Android phones and has some new features like multi-touch support, universal search, text-to-speech, automated backups and an upgraded camera application. New widgets for the homescreen include a toggle for Wi-Fi, screen brightness and more. And since we did report that Sprint CEO Dan Hesse said to expect an Android device under his firm's banner by year end, there is support for CDMA built into the doughy goodness.

*UPDATE*
Romain Guy, an Android team member, has cleared up some of the earlier information regarding Google's distribution of Donut to developers. Mr. Guy says that Donut is not Android OS 2.0. This is basically the same thing that happened with Cupcake which is not officially OS build 1.5 even though most of the improvements in 1.5 were from the Cupcake code branch. Guy also wanted to point out that despite earlier hints and reports, multi-touch support is not included in the upgrade.
