Samsung is riding Apple’s coattails again

Oh, would you look at that, Samsung is considering something that Apple just did to massive success. Again.

I know that just the title alone has already made many of you angry. How dare I. I know, I know. Hear me out, though.

Because recently, a lot of what Samsung has done can be described as riding Apple’s coattails.

Three new products to rival Apple

I’m not going to mention the inspiration that the Galaxy Buds or the Galaxy Watch took from Apple a while back, or even the Now Bar that copied the Dynamic Island. Those are, in my eyes, fine. They are product designs that clearly work, so Samsung can use them too.

But let’s talk about the three new recent products that Samsung made as a direct answer to Apple.

First, we have the Galaxy XR headset. Am I glad that Samsung entered the XR (Extended Reality) industry again? Absolutely!

But did the company really have to make it resemble the Apple Vision Pro so strongly? It’s like seeing those phone manufacturers who rush to copy the latest iPhone design just because.

Then we have the Galaxy S25 Edge. News comes out about the iPhone Air and lo and behold, Samsung is working on a similar phone all of a sudden. And when it doesn’t sell well, Samsung abandoned it immediately.

It might come back some time in the future with better battery technology, but at least Apple is making an iPhone Air 2 despite the poor sales just to put some faith behind its new design.

Lastly, the Galaxy Z Wide Fold. A direct, immediate response to leaked designs for the upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra.

This is a form factor that might catch on, but wow did Samsung jump on it quick. Not to mention that the company only made the excellent Galaxy Z Fold 7, for which I am very grateful, after it was all but confirmed that Apple was entering the foldable smartphone market.

Samsung keeps waiting for Apple to do something before trying its hand at it. It’s honestly a bit sad to see. The company even copies the bad things, like removing the charging brick from the phone box, though not before mocking Apple for having done it.

Now, on to the newest ride that Samsung is thinking about hitching on Apple’s coattails.

Oh look, a rear camera redesign

Yep, you heard it. Samsung is considering a major redesign for its Galaxy phones. Specifically, either changing around the position of the rear camera module or modifying it in some way.

What other phone manufacturer just redesigned the rear of its phones, for which it saw a massive boost in sales because customers had been yearning for something new? Oh, yeah, it was Apple, with the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Why am I not surprised?

Do you think Samsung is copying Apple?

Samsung, some more originality please

I’m grateful for the innovation that Samsung has shown over the years. The S Pen, the Edge phones, popularizing foldables, and the privacy display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, just to name a few.

Samsung can be spectacular when it wants to, but there is such a clear fear of missing out at the company that seems to revolve solely around Apple and almost exclusively around the iPhone.

I’d love to see the iconic triple-camera setup of the Galaxy phones get a redesign. It’s just that Samsung considering this after Apple has already done it and seen massive success for it just screams desperation.

Samsung, please, be a little more original. More Galaxy Z TriFold (even if it came after the Huawei Mate XT), more privacy display, less…whatever this is. Even the Galaxy smart glasses only seem to have been taken seriously once news came out about Apple making its own glasses.

You can be so much better. But considering your current modus operandi, I’m guessing that we aren’t even going to see bigger batteries until Apple does it first. What a shame.
