T-Mobile apparently launched a killer low-cost plan this month without telling (almost) anyone
More and more T-Mobile customers (and potential new subscribers) are discovering a $25 a month Walmart-exclusive plan that looks very hard to turn down.
While most T-Mobile plans have either gotten more expensive or less flexible (or even both) over the last couple of years, the "Un-carrier" can still make good on its nickname... if you know where to look.
At Walmart, for instance, new T-Mo customers can get unlimited talk, text, and 5G data at a much lower monthly cost than the entry-level Essentials Saver 2.0 option available through the mobile network operator, although as you can imagine, there are a few special requirements you need to meet first.
Just how good is the Super Essentials Saver plan?
Extremely good, at least at a first glance, setting you back $25 a month instead of $50 or $55. That's right, Essentials Saver 2.0 subscribers must cough up at least 50 bucks for their unlimited plan, while this new Super Essentials Saver option is only 25 bucks with Autopay or $30 without.

The first time the new postpaid plan popped up on the radar of a few Redditors was over three weeks ago, when a couple of alleged Walmart employees revealed that you had to be a new T-Mobile customer (obviously) in order to qualify for the undeniably great deal.
Naturally, that's still the case, and you also still need to get the plan in a physical Walmart store if you want it. And I think many of you should want it, especially when you consider that Magenta's cheapest prepaid option costs $40 a month and only includes 15GB of high-speed data.
Of course, the Super Essentials Saver plan is unlikely to be as awesome as it looks on a promotional flyer when you get into its fineprint, but you really can't be dissatisfied with paying $25 a month for 50 gigs of "premium" data in today's economy.
Do you have any objectively better options right now?
At T-Mobile, absolutely not, and as crazy as it sounds, that includes the "Un-carrier's" recently released Essentials Saver with Student Perks Savings 2.0 (what a name!) plan that starts at $30 a month and obviously requires qualifying student affiliation.
Verizon, meanwhile, has a Simplicity plan that's pretty awesome, with unlimited talk, text, and data included, as well as 5G Ultra Wideband access and 10GB mobile hotspot data, but even that one is a little costlier, at $30 and up.
What do you think your next carrier will be?
AT&T's cheapest postpaid plan also starts at $30 a month, only including 5 gigs of high-speed data, which leaves you with one (broad) alternative to T-Mobile's new ultra-affordable Super Essentials Saver program.
I'm talking about specialized budget-friendly prepaid carriers like Visible, US Mobile, and Boost Mobile, all of which have very interesting options starting at, you guessed it, $25 a month. But despite being embroiled in more security and price hike scandals than I'd like to recall over the last few years, T-Mobile's brand reputation remains a key tiebreaker for a lot of Americans who want to switch their carriers. And when you also add Walmart's name and retail presence to the equation, this offer might prove impossible to resist for a very large number of users.
Should you run to a Walmart store ASAP?
I think so, because there must be a reason why this deal was launched on August 6 (that's nearly four weeks ago) with zero fanfare. And I believe the reason is that T-Mobile doesn't want many new customers to get the dirt-cheap Walmart-exclusive Super Essentials Saver plan when there are so many other costlier options available directly through the nation-leading and constantly 5G-innovating carrier.
That's only an assumption on my part, of course, but if the plan proves unexpectedly popular, I definitely wouldn't be shocked to see it retired before long.
