Samsung has supplied Apple with OLED display panels for years. Now, a new report indicates that the South Korean giant is working on its most advanced OLED display yet for Apple's future iPhones. Reportedly, upcoming models like the iPhone 18 Pro and the mysterious foldable iPhone are going to get these newer, advanced display panels too.
iPhone 18 Pro may come with the most advanced OLED screen yet
A new report from ETNews indicates that Samsung Display is going to supply LTPO+ (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon Oxide Plus) OLED panels for the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, and even the foldable iPhone.
These display panels are more power efficient thanks to using oxide technology in the driver unit. The panels also support placing an infrared camera under the panel.

Thanks to this display upgrade, the upcoming iPhones are said to become more power-efficient while still sporting a variable refresh rate (1-120Hz). The report also corroborates earlier rumors that Samsung Display may make an almost crease-free display for the iPhone Fold.

Another rumor corroborating the smaller Dynamic Island for the iPhone 18 Pro
The Dynamic Island on current iPhones is there because it houses Apple's Face ID system. Before the Dynamic Island, it was the infamous notch. Basically, the Face ID system has three components: an infrared camera, a laser dot projector, and a flood illuminator.
Right now, all these sensors are within the Dynamic Island. However, if Apple indeed goes for the LTPO+ panel with the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone, the company may be able to move the Face ID sensors under the display, without the need to have them inside a display cutout.

This could, in turn, help Apple at least shrink the Dynamic Island on the upcoming Pro-branded iPhones.
Meanwhile, the Cupertino tech giant has been working hard to diversify its supply chain. It's also working with other display suppliers, such as Chinese OLED panel maker BOE.
Despite that, LG Display and Samsung Display are still currently leading in the OLED tech market. These two companies offer quality and mass production capabilities that the Cupertino giant needs. For now, because of this, it seems that BOE has been excluded from supplying OLED screens for the Pro iPhones.
Samsung is already using LTPO OLED panels for the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series. But not LTPO+ just yet. We hope that Samsung will use the tech in its own devices soon, which would allow Galaxy phones to be more up to par with iPhones when it comes to power efficiency.
Apple's next display upgrade is exactly the kind of iPhone change I actually care about
Personally, this is the sort of iPhone improvement I'd genuinely appreciate. Better power efficiency from the display might not sound flashy, but it directly translates to longer battery life – and that's a very important aspect of a smartphone for me.
If Apple can keep the smooth 120Hz experience while making the phone sip less power, that's a clear win in my book. And if this also leads to a smaller Dynamic Island, or even cleaner-looking displays over time, I'm all for it.
What I find a bit ironic, though, is that Samsung may once again be giving Apple its most advanced OLED tech before using it in its own phones. I'd love to see Galaxy devices benefit from LTPO+ sooner rather than later.
The displays for the foldable iPhone are also quite interesting to me. Hopefully, 2026 may be the year we see creaseless foldables, as rumors have previously indicated that Samsung Display has managed to come up with such a screen for the rumored foldable iPhone.
