Over 1.5 billion apps loaded during year one of Apple's App Store
Yesterday, we wished a Happy Birthday to Apple's App Store as the very successful on-device store turned one year old. Now, we have some statistics that only serve to put an exclamation mark on the achievements made by the birthday boy (girl?). So far, over 1.5 billion apps have been downloaded from the App Store. There are over 100,000 developers hawking more than 65,000 apps. With about 40 million iPhones and iPod touch devices sold, this works out to about 37.5 apps downloaded for each device. Each app has been selected 23,077 times. And if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, this one year old should feel very proud as the App Store has spawned other stores on other platforms like RIM's App World, the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, the Ovi Store and the Android Market to name just a few. Quite a lot of accomplishments for a toddler.

How do 100,000 developers hawk 65,00 apps? I'm no mathematician but even if it was only 1 app per developer wouldn't that leave 35,000 developers not actually developing apps?

That's what I was thinking. No offense but I thought that it was pretty self-explanatory. Anyways that's one reason why I think that Apple's App store is not going to be easy to beat is because not only are there so many iphones, but there are also so many ipod touchs too. In about a about a month since the launch of the 3GS, Apple has probably sold millions of 3GS and I'm pretty sure that a number of 3GS were bought also. This coming September/October, there might be another ipod touch that will release which will increase the number of devices running 3.)

I mean that there were many 3GS bought and that there were a number of 3G's bought too. And also I meant running 3.0 and not 3.). My time limit for editing was running out so I had to rush.

lol, since they launched the new Apple iPhone 3GS hereby Vodafone NZ division recently and I've just ordered one which means there are more Apple devices out there than ever lol.
