Nokia Lumia 1020 available for pre-order in Germany
Two German retailers have started accepting pre-orders for the Nokia Lumia 1020. Both are pricing the latest Windows Phone powered Nokia smartphone for € 799 ($1044 USD). The two retailers are Notebooksbilliger and Nullprozentshop. At the latter store, those pre-ordering the phone can pay monthly installments of €66.58 ($87 USD). At  Notebooksbilliger, the phone can be purchased for € 249 ($325 USD) with a signed contract from carriers like Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile Germany.

According to the retailer's websites, a delivery date for the phone has not yet been determined. In the U.S., where the phone will be first available as an exclusive at AT&T, the Nokia Lumia 1020 will be $299 for the 32GB variant with a signed two-year version. Pre-orders will start this coming Tuesday with shipments arriving on July 26th.

Their taxes are around 23%, that's why.
Smartphones are tax-free in my country. That's why I never get worried about smartphone prices when i see such news published.

Not 23% it's 19% in Germany. But even without taxes it would be too expensive. Despite that I believe that the price tag is just a placeholder and when the device hits the shelfs it will sell for around 649€

That's correct it's 19% tax, but the problem here in Germany is, that often if a phone cost $800.00 in the U.S.. The OEM's want to charge the same 800 but in euro's here i.e $800.00 = 800.00euro... What a rip-off imo and hopefully they don't add a VAT also.

There are plenty of iDiots out there who purchases an iPhone that has really no innovation and whatever. I'm not saying it's not overpriced, but if i'd choose, with this price point, this is definitely a hundred times more worth it than iphone.

Lets not forget this is just the odd couple of rogue retailers trying to scam your money on the high publicity of the L1020 launch.

Wait till the phone is actually released and then the price will be a lot less.

People read too much into inflated preorder price. I can ask 2000 euros for it, does it mean that will be the average price when released? NO.

well other then apps which actully are a seprate thing what is iphones hardware is worth i dont think its that highend to charge 800 for iphone with average overall hardware with absolutly nothing to standout its too damn overprcied from start just the priceof brand what a joke . while this price here is also high but it saturates to around 470euros in 2-3 months

true, but you also have to consider that Iphones in general have much higher resale values than other phones. Just look at ebay how much you still have to pay for an used Iphone 4s or even 4. The Lumia 920 was launched 9 month ago with a price tag of 649€. Now it can be yours for just 300€ and we are talking about brand new device not used once!

yes because "If u don't have an iPhone, you don't have an iPhone"
but "if u don't have a Lumia , you can get Htc,lg,samsung,huawei...etc etc bla bla bla "

but WP8 has premium apps. you are just too ignorant to see them.

Agreed... This "no apps" comment is almost stupid with the grown that WP8 has made to the selection and will continue to grow.

care to tell what premium apps wp8 does have? IE? BING MAPS? lol find a better job instead of getting paid for comments

can you tell me what wp8 does not have that is nessasery for phone to become a smartphone
and dont start naming the games like kids do their is much more to phones then merely games
number dont matter untill you cant find quality in 1000 same kind of apps while one solid application for one job is enough

I'm getting mine thru AT&T next Tuesday. Who in their right mind wants to carry around a dslr or any camera everywhere they go? These comments come over and over and to me that's the point of this phone.. It's a phone that takes better pictures than any current phone by a mile and here's the kicker....,its with you all the time... I know this is hard to grasp fandroids.. Your envy is pathetic and childish
