Since its 2022 debut on the iPhone 14 Pro, the Dynamic Island has remained virtually... static. Rumors regarding the iPhone 18 Pro's cutout size have been all over the place, but a newly leaked image might just settle the debate, at least until the next one drops.

Majin Bu, a prolific leaker with a track record that's not exactly spotless, recently shared an image partially showing the iPhone 18 Pro's front profile.
It's unlikely to be an image of a real unit and is almost certainly a mockup, though Bu claims the image was published by mistake.
Regardless of its origin, the leak is another sign that the Dynamic Island has shrunk considerably, taking up less space than before.

Even if today's leak is discarded as implausible, the evidence for a more compact Dynamic Island is mounting.
Measurements from dummy models suggest the cutout will shrink from 20.06mm on the iPhone 17 Pro to 14.98mm on the iPhone 18 Pro. That's a nearly 25% reduction, per YouTuber Vadim Yuryev.
Some, like leaker Ice Universe, are even more optimistic, claiming the Dynamic Island will be trimmed to 13.5mm, a 35% reduction.
What other iPhone 18 Pro changes were you looking forward to?
About time
While Android handsets have long moved on to circular cutouts for the front camera, Apple continues to hold on to a much bigger pill-shaped notch. It's more obtrusive than pinholes, though Apple has tried to work around that by making the area interactive.

Because Face ID sensors aren't moving entirely under the display this year, the notch isn't going extinct just yet. However, by tucking the Face ID's flood illuminator beneath the display, Apple will finally be able to shrink the footprint.
Identical design
In addition to a smaller Dynamic Island, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to have a more pronounced camera bump and a thicker design. While that may impact usability, the overall design will still look familiar.
That was to be expected, considering Apple switched up the design only last year, and it's too soon to expect more radical changes.
The device will likely be announced in September alongside the first foldable iPhone.
