It’s been almost two years since Samsung launched the Galaxy Ring and nearly as long since the last time its sequel was rumored to launch. That’s almost an eternity for the tech world, but new rumors suggest that the delay may have happened for a reason.
Samsung is developing a much improved Galaxy Ring 2
Samsung is reportedly deep into the development process for the Galaxy Ring 2. The company’s goal with the new device will be to improve on all the weaknesses of its first smart ring, including the battery life and sensor accuracy, according to an ET News report (translated source).
The new ring should be thinner, lighter, and more comfortable to wear, but it may still offer extended battery life. Unlike its predecessor, which lasted up to seven days, the Galaxy Ring 2 may last nine or 10 days.

Among the other upgrades would be increased sleep analysis accuracy and expanded cardiovascular health tracking insights. The company may feature improved temperature sensors and non-invasive blood glucose technology. However, the latter feature is far from certain, as it needs to gain regulatory approval.
Definitely not coming in 2026
While earlier rumors suggested the Galaxy Ring 2 may launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Wide, and Z Flip 8 this July, that’s almost certainly not happening. Instead, the ring is expected to launch sometime in early 2027, probably alongside the Galaxy S27 family.

Samsung’s desire to vastly improve the second-generation smart ring is part of the reason, but far from the only concern. The speed at which the smart ring market is growing, the company’s flagship products' launch schedule, and the marketing efforts are among the reported reasons for the delay.
Complimentary device
Samsung’s strategy for the Galaxy Ring 2 is to have it as a part of a larger personal health management platform. That would combine Galaxy AI, Samsung Health, and the company’s wearables.
The Galaxy Ring 2 would take care of sleep tracking and health data collection over extended periods. Then, the Galaxy Watch would handle exercise tracking, notifications, and app features, working in tandem with the ring.
Still an opportunity
Smart rings are far from the most popular wearables, but they have some clear advantages over smartwatches, especially for simple sleep and health tracking. Samsung has the rich ecosystem and hardware experience to make the Galaxy Ring 2 a very attractive device even for someone like me who doesn’t like wearing rings.
