Between a bunch of substantial price hikes for popular Samsung products and next week's Prime Big Deal Days 2026 extravaganza, today might feel like a... pretty awkward time to buy a new phone, tablet, smartwatch, or smart speaker.

But it's not necessarily a bad time as well, especially if you're not an Amazon Prime member (and have no intention of becoming one anytime soon) and if you steer clear of all the Galaxy handsets that are suddenly more expensive than ever before on their manufacturer's official US website.

That leaves you with plenty of excellent holiday shopping options for both yourself and all your loved ones, and if you know where to look or who to listen to (myself, that is), you can save the big bucks and a lot of hassle right now.

Probably the best foldable phone money can buy in the US right now is not also the most popular such model, being reportedly eclipsed by its wider, slightly humbler, and cheaper brother. Can I predict the mobile industry's future? Obviously not or else I would have pushed you harder to buy a Galaxy S26 Ultra in recent weeks. But what I can tell you is that it's going to be mighty difficult for both Amazon and Samsung to eclipse the latter's killer new Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 promotions.

With these, you can both spend a lot less than usual on one of the best foldable devices around without meeting any special requirements and get protective accessories, earbuds, or smartwatches for free or at heavily reduced prices. How could you ever argue with the appeal of such amazing (and amazingly early) holiday deals?

If you feel like "breathtaking" might be overselling these latest tablet deals, you should probably look a little more closely at the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2, Yoga Tab Gen 2, and Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 spec sheets. If anything, I think I'm underselling Lenovo's crazy new price cuts for these three recently released and always affordable Android powerhouses. And yes, the Android 17-based Yoga Tab Gen 2 and Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 are made that much more compelling by this week's disappointing Galaxy Tab S12+ and Tab S12 Ultra announcements.

The 2023-released Amazon Fire HD 10, meanwhile, is simply too cheap today to even pay a lot of attention to its specs and capabilities (which aren't anywhere near as bad as you think), and then you've got the TCL Tab A1 Plus NXTPAPER at a cool $120 discount if you feel like those latest (and greatest) Kindle e-readers are a bit too expensive for what they have to offer.

The newest collection of smartwatch bargains... could be better

Don't forget, the rugged smartwatch manages to offer better battery life than its predecessor despite rocking a thinner body while also packing a state-of-the-art new Snapdragon Wear Elite processor.

A $20 discount for a product priced at $800 is clearly not much, but it's also definitely better than nothing, especially when said product is only a couple of weeks old and likely the absolute best smartwatch an iPhone user or general Apple fan can buy this holiday season.

You didn't expect me to be that honest with you, right? Well, I'm really not trying to convince you to buy something that you don't want or need or something that might go down to a much lower price as early as next week. Instead, I'm always going to give it to you straight and tell you, for instance, that a lot of cheaper smartwatches than the Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are likely to score hefty discounts during Amazon's second big Prime Day event of the year.

At the same time, I really don't expect that luxury Apple Watch Ultra 3 version to become any cheaper anytime soon, and the same could definitely be true for the hot new Apple Watch Ultra 4. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is also not a bad deal at its reasonable list price with some nice Samsung Store credit included... even though I suspect said price could go down slightly before long.

Let's wrap things up with some of the best smart speakers around

If you hurry, you can get Amazon's most affordable smart speaker at an incredible 50 percent discount with no Prime membership required or any other strings attached. Released in 2022, the latest Echo Dot edition is almost surprisingly powerful for its small size and equipped with all the Alexa skills its bigger and costlier brothers also support.

These devices are not in the spotlight as frequently as the best smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds money can buy, but this week, they absolutely deserve your attention at some of their greatest ever discounts with no Prime membership required (for the moment).

Keep in mind that the Echo Dot, Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, and Echo Show 11 all got permanent price hikes not long ago, so it's even less likely than usual that these pre-Prime Day deals will ever be improved.
