The always popular Amazon Echo Dot is half off before Prime Day and incredibly hard to turn down

Who doesn't own a smart speaker? It's hard to imagine something like that in 2026, but at the same time, I believe about 90 percent of existing Echo, Google Home, and HomePod owners could always find an extra unit useful, either for themselves or as a gift for a tech-savvy friend acquaintance or distant cousin.

In the latter case, of course, you're likely to care a lot more about the product's price than its features and capabilities, so instead of going for an Echo Show 11 or "full-sized" HomePod (2nd generation), you might want to purchase the Echo Dot (5th Gen) right now.

If you don't necessarily need a smart speaker, you can also consider the portable Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen) at its latest discount.

Released all the way back in 2022, this diminutive smart speaker remains a very smart buy at a huge 50 percent discount in three color options with surprisingly powerful sound, all the Alexa skills you need in your smart home, and three microphones on deck. If you hurry, you don't even need a Prime membership to save 40 bucks.

This is obviously the smallest and humblest member of the current Echo family, and it's also not very new, having seen daylight all the way back in 2022 and thus looking virtually guaranteed to receive a sequel before long. But until that happens, its price seems unbeatable and extremely difficult to resist... despite a massive permanent hike from $49.99 to $79.99 last month.

Amazon's latest deal not only effectively cancels out that price increase, saving you 40 bucks at the time of this writing and thus making the newest Echo Dot edition as affordable as back in May. Naturally, the diminutive smart speaker was even cheaper during its manufacturer's epic first Prime Day sale of 2026 in June, but at least you don't need to jump through any hoops today to slash 50 percent off the 2022 Echo Dot's recently revised price.

More importantly, the half-off Alexa-powered sphere with three built-in microphones and surprisingly "vibrant" sound is currently way cheaper than Apple's HomePod mini and the "regular"-sized Google Home Speaker, which makes it an excellent choice for a stocking stuffer this Christmas... you may not be able to buy very close to the holidays if you put off your purchase.

Next week, remember, is when Amazon plans to run its second big Prime Day event of the year, and while I don't doubt that hundreds of awesome new deals on ultra-popular phones, tablets, and accessories are coming, I'm extremely skeptical that the likes of the Echo Dot and Echo Show 11 will score deeper discounts than right now.
