CyanogenMod goes over 10 million installations
On Sunday, we showed you a video of what the OPPO N1 CyanogenMod edition will look like. Later Sunday, we spotted the very interesting statistic that there have been over 10 million installations of the custom Android ROM. The most popular variant is the CyanogenMod 10.1 nightlies, which has been loaded on 1.16 million devices. The most popular device for installing the ROM is the Samsung Galaxy S with 510,913 installs, followed by the 494,178 installations on the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Samsung Galaxy S III is third with 458,570. Many of the devices further down the list are older, cheaper Android handsets that no longer receive support from their manufacturers.

The OPPO N1 CM edition goes a long way toward bringing publicity to the company. The special edition of the OPPO N1 is launching tomorrow, Christmas Eve, and with a very limited number of handsets available, we could see a sell out. The phone is available via Amazon and OPPO. We should reiterate that there is no root access out of the box so that the device could pass Google's Android Compatibility Test suite. There is some speculation about a CyanogenMod app that would root the phone with a single tap. While that is speculation, what is fact is the recently introduced installer app which makes loading the ROM onto a phone easier than ever.

If the OPPO phone does well, we could see more such devices from OPPO and some other manufacturers as well. With many Android phones offering similar specs and looks, offering a handset with CyanagenMod pre-installed out of the box could be a big differentiator.
