Apple iPhone 5s to be displayed by the Academy of Motion Pictures Museum

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is building a museum, and among the many movie related objects that will be on display there will be an Apple iPhone 5s. No, the handset isn't being honored for its acting skills. Actually, the rear camera on the phone was used by Director Sean Baker a couple of years ago to film Tangerine. The latter was a big hit at Sundance, and in theaters it grossed seven times the cost to film it.

The Apple iPhone 5s will be placed alongside memorabilia from some of the most famous movies ever filmed such as The Wizard of Oz and Alien. The 300,000 square foot facility will apparently have more than enough room to allow visitors to see a wide range of property that was salvaged after being used in the filming of some historical films.

The Academy released a video to announce Baker's decision to turn the iPhone 5s used to film Tangerine, over to the organization. To edit the movie, Baker used the Filmic Pro app that cost him all of $8. The video above not only discusses the equipment that he used to make the film, it also shows Baker revisiting the site where one of the most climatic scenes of the movie took place.
