Windows Phone 8.1 video hands-on leaks, with walkthrough of the new features
Microsoft sending out the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK to developers was like a command to start leaking the new features, despite any NDA agreements signed.

Yesterday we saw a screenshot collage revealing plethora of new WP 8.1 features that are coming with the newest version of Windows Phone, such as apps to memory card, messaging app choices, VPN support, more detailed reports for the battery draw of individual applications, and the ability to keep an app active after pressing the Back key, like on Android and iOS, instead of shutting it down. We also learned that there will be new resolutions supported - from the lowly nHD, to the breathtaking Quad HD (1440x2560 pixels) - on future WP devices.

Now the ultimate in leak land has popped up - a video walkthrough of the new Windows Phone 8.1 update - showing in flesh and blood the changes we have only heard talked about, or appearing in screenshots. Check it out below, and treat your Lumias patiently until April arrives with the official unveiling.

Finally we are talking! GDR2 and GDR3 from MS was a joke. Though titled as major updates, in terms of actual usability they were as good as minor updates.

8.1 looks promising, hopefully my 520 will be in the list of recipients. It's the most frugal of all WP bunch of devices. I guess though, being the best selling device MS will be forced to release 8.1 to 520 ;)

Sure....the leaks on wpcentral.com said that it will be upgraded to all wp8 hardware which I'm really happy about is that it will be more fluid in terms or apps switching:D:D:D

Sure gdr3 was major imo as it added more hardware tweaks...
But as Rodneyj gut said....this if others were major, this is a COLOSSAL update.....=)

The same was said on WP7 as they would be updated to WP8. And then what, we got Mango(7.8) instead.

notice that you stated wp7 vs wp8, see the version numbers. you got 7.8, notice 8.1...again version numbers. Any wp8 hardware will update to 8.1. It is not like going from wp8 to wp9

I just dont get hoping again. OEMs today are lazy to update. They just want you to buy new phones instead.

GDR updates aren't ever meant to be considered as major updates....
..................
Back in 2012 MS said that they would be releasing WP8.0 supplemented by several small GDR updates... But, those updates brought at least 20 features, and fixes to WP8, and are definitely not a joke.

That's why they were considered minor updates...........

No Cortana, No Notification bar.. this video doesnt show the most important updates that are supposed to come with the 8.1 update.. but still.. this is the biggest update in WP till date it seems.. lots of new features and enhancements and hope they finally match to Android and iOS in terms of functionality and usability.. I really want to try WP but cant imagine leaving my nexus for something which is still missing the basic things I've gotten used to..

Lets hope my new phone can be a windows phone.. only if they incorporate all the functions.

Cortana and notification bar is missing as the 8.1 sdk comes without it bt surely they will be added in final update.....

Sure try wp...it is great.....just don't hope for google centric apps in near future, they are not available in wp8

WP just might replace Android as my daily driver. That's just MY opinion. I love Android. My Note 3 is awesome. But i wanna go back to WP for a while just to switch it up for a bit. I liked my old HTC Titan. Now that soon-to-be-mine Lumia 1520 will most definately be more of a beast after this update.

Wow this update seems bigger than all the others combined. So glad that M$ seems to be listening to what others want and to build on what I feel is an amazing platform.
plus my Xbox one is getting some big updates too.

Awesome, but I really hate the 'tabs' feature in Internet explorer if it's really a seperate window like it shows at 7:00. I hope it's not like that.
