Images of Windows Phone 8.1 start screen leak, showing customizable wallpaper
A report out of China, by way of Italy, reveals a couple of new images showing off the start screen of Windows Phone 8.1. The pictures reveal a picture wallpaper in the background, something that apparently will be available to users of the updated platform. The customization feature is something that Windows Phone users have been wishing for.

You can check out everything we know about the Windows Phone 8.1 update. The new build of Microsoft's mobile OS appears to be another step toward putting Windows Phone on a level playing field with iOS and Android. A recent report by Kantar called Windows Phone the fastest growing OS in the world. Of course, a lot of that is due to the low base that the platform is starting from, but it does point to strong growth for the OS, which has captured second place in some countries.

I don't like this, better real backgrounds with the option to make the tiles transparent!

Could be worse... Like icons in rows like that MySpace OS..

Nope, you can do anything you want, you can even have tiles on that "myspace" OS. Fail! And by your biased comments, I assume you never had an Android, even if you say so. Nice try though, troll!

44. papss unregistered

Kid I've had plenty of android phones and most were ruined by the OS..

53. SleepingOz unregistered

That's why you recently bought a Note 3, right? Then you supposedly swapped it against a G2 since it's better iyo. Yet according to your recent trollish comments, you went back to the Note 3. B*tch please! If you want to lie, at least make your comments consistent.

What are you doing here? I thought you don't like WP.. This is completely WP related.. Why did you even click on the article.. You love WP, don't you?.. Yeah, you really do love WP!!! I knew it!!

73. SleepingOz unregistered

According to flawed logic, you really love Android then. And please meg, this is internet! I post where I want. If you're not happy with your incapacity to bring a decent argument, I recommend vaseline.

Strange I thought you admit a 4% market share WP OS as MySpace OS. if you meant a 80% market share Android then you a bit bitter and delusional. Why does wp fan need to be so defensive in every wp article, you think you can win over any one using this approach. Android is free and its being integrate into more devices making them smart. I am using it as I know its the future so do millions of developers. High end BMW Audi cars has Android integration. Ex Nokia Vetru phones runs Android despite being pressure by MS and Nokia to run WP. The writing is on the wall. WP is a sunset OS.

I agree. This is probably the result of the software engineers over thinking. I don't think they've heard the term: K-I-S-S. (Keep It Simple stupid)

There is no enough 'wall' in WP to add a 'wallpaper'. That's why they're implementing such an idea for those who want customization in their devices. And it seems to be good. It'll be odd to place images in between the tiles as it would be difficult to identify the content on the live tiles.

Both options would be nice... It's all about options.. But, MS is getting better.. It's obvious by looking at the list of WP8.1-0xxxx features.

so basically windows is just playing catch up, so its natural for it to be the fastest growing OS

42. SleepingOz unregistered

Right, when all you're doing is to copy others' features.

WinMo didn't have Wallpapers?.. Which came first.. WinMo, or Android?... So, you're saying that anything BB had first Android copied?.... You're saying Android copied Symbian?

74. SleepingOz unregistered

Weren't you guys calling Samsung and Google copycat for their flatter UI? Ironic isn't it? And yeah, it's sad that both winmo and symbian used to have most of these basic features before yet their supposedly modern os is lagging behind and need to play catch up on competitors.

Well correction not just symbian, basic s40 and s30 phones had support for themes and wallpapers.
