Samsung GALAXY Note

Earlier on Thursday, we told you that a clue involving a magic wand on the invitation to Samsung's next Unpacked event was pointing to the introduction of the Samsung GALAXY Note 2 on the August 29th date of the event. Not only would that be just a couple of days before the IFA consumer trade fair, it would come almost two weeks before the rumored introduction of the next Apple iPhone.

Speculation is that the son of phablet will offer a slightly larger 5.5 inch unbreakable screen, a faster processor and a better camera. The Samsung GALAXY Note has a 5.3 inch WXGA Super AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and an 8MP camera on back. Samsung shipped over 50 million smartphones in the second quarter of this year to continue its perch at the top of the global smartphone market. The company is currently embroiled in a patent trial with Apple that continues Friday after a one-day recess.

"Unbreakable screen"? How? Is some sort of flexible display?

15. Phullofphil posted on 03 Aug 2012, 04:40

Yeah it's suposed to be flexible screen I guess. I hope they don't do that. It's usually the outsid glass that breaks not the LCD and if there glued together to make it thiner than if the outer glas breaks you have to replace both anyways. Plus I would rather see a super amoled hd plus screen than that stupid flexible screen with less quality picture. And decently I hope they don't start making the touch panel out of anything but glass cause of scratches. that flex screen would be nice on a television and make the screen have a curve to it and either make the curve permanent or make it so you can bend your 55 inch or bigger screen around so it is focused at you, it might make not only for a better 3d experience or atliest a more real picture than a flat panal.

I do personally think that they should be releasing the next version of the galaxy note after the release of the next iPhone. Apple might change and improve the next iPhone's specs once they already had seen the next galaxy note. I wonder when they'll be releasing the wp8 handsets and the one they partnered up with intel(tizen)

I for one would like to see a larger screen iPhone at least a 4.3"

For years, Apple has an insane amount of profit margin over their 3.5" phone.

Two weeks there will be no changes. The apple is probably already final. If any thing releasing the note first can give it time for the note to get more market share befor the iPhone takes over a little bit. Even though the iPhone and the note I believe have two different user markets

I'm interested to see what the next Note will bring. One of the things it better have is two gigs of RAM. Also I'd like to know whether it will be launched in the US soon, and on what carriers.

The Note has been more of a specialty device, but it's had its sales, and I like using it as a proof of concept device. Pretty much a "Hey, with Android, if you WANT a device this big, you can have it!"

They are releasing this model to early, it should be released later around christmas...

I disagree, they want this baby out there on all carriers before the New iPhone hits simply because they want the consumer to be able to have a choice and compare. Sort of like this: let's say it's now October; the New iPhone has just launched; I'm due for an upgrade or my 110 year-old great grandfather wants a new cell phone; we go to our nearest Verizon store here in NYC (I especially like the Union Square store). Whilst at the store, my great grandfather and I are browsing the massive selection of smartphones on display. For me, it's a no-brainer: Galaxy Note 2. But, for my great grandfather, who's wheelchair bound and wears a colonoscopy bag, his failing heart is set on the next "great" iPhone. Well, once my dear old great granddad sees what I'm getting, he's becomes ridden with size-envy. And, when I show him everything my G-Note 2 can do I disagree, they want this baby out there on all carriers before the New iPhone hits simply because they want the consumer to be able to have a choice and compare. For me, it's a no-brainer: Android. But, for my great grandfather, who's wheelchair bound and wears a right next to his desired iPhone and he sees first-hand (albeit with bifocals) what his iPhone CAN'T DO, he changes his mind and says, "I don't want that puny-ass phone; I can't even see the screen with my bifocals and the help of a telescope; whatdayamean' I need a special program on my computer to put all of my Glen Miller (and his Band) hits on there, I can barely use a computer as it is; and, no porn, hey, I might be 110 but I can still move my right hand, I wanna' see some jugs; gimme' that humongous G-Note 2, I'm through with geriAtric phones." And, that's what he will say: word-for-word!

This is exactly what many people are waiting for at the end of the year purchase. Samsung must get this right exactly like they did earlier this summer with the Galaxy S3 launch on all carriers. No more exclusive carrier garbage everyone deserves the chance to enjoy this product. Even if they stagnate the launch by letting it launch on the GSM CARRIERS first Tmobile and At&t let's say in October then Sprint and Verizon at the end of October who cares when. These stagnated launches will off set any new iphone 5 launch sales come September 12th. I will be purchasing this device to pair it with my already industry leading Galaxy S3 just get it to Tmobile....

This is the phone I have been very keen on but I hope they haven't got too clever by half with this screen-turns me off abit. Has it the strength and longevity of a more orthodox Super Amoled?

as long as it comes to Verizon this time......
