HTC U Ultra and U Play: all the official images and color versions

HTC got off the stage today announcing the biggest shift in its design strategy in recent memory. The company that became synonymous with the unibody metal chassis just announced its new U line of phones that are all about... glass. Given that metal phones have become so ubiquitous that even $200 handsets from obscure Chinese makers are touting brushed aluminum housings, it was becoming increasingly hard for HTC to compete with its signature design language that kept churning out similar-looking flagships in the last few years.

The new U Ultra and U Play have a glass sandwich chassis with a sturdy metal frame for structural rigidity, and their colorful versions are done with something akin to Samsung's "symmetrical" design that came with the Note 7 - front and back "3D" glass sloping towards the sides at an equal angle for a seamless fusion with the metal rim, elegant looks and more comfortable feel in the palm.

HTC is also using Gorilla Glass 5 for the front and back, making the phones in the new U line the first to utilize Corning's toughest available cover sheets after the now-defunct Note 7. As for the ever-inventive color version names? We'll just say that there is Cosmetic Pink in the mix below, don't you dare call it Rose Gold, warns HTC.
