We have already reported about the low range Samsung Gem that Verizon will offer to balance out those high end Android models in its line-up. With the launch of the device coming soon, big box retailer Best Buy has already added the device to its buyer's guide. The material points out that the Gem will be equipped with Android 2.1, TouchWiz 3.0, a 3.2MP camera, memory expansion up to 16GB using a microSD card and a pre-installed Swype keyboard.
With the Gem gearing up to be offered by Best Buy, and with the retailer expected to accept pre-orders for the high end Samsung Fascinate starting this Sunday, the retailer and the carrier will have a Samsung Android model for everyone's budget. Taking a look at both phones, there should be no mixing up which handset is for the lunch pail crowd.
The Gem should launch with a 3.2 inch AMOLED diaplay while the Fascinate will be equipped with a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen. And yes, those extra tenths of an inch are noticeable. While pricing has not been released, you can be sure that there will be a big difference between the expected $199.99 for the Fascinate and the cost of the Gem.

I thought this was canceled too. Isn't there supposed to be a mid-range model as well, called the Continuum? I'm still hoping for a 5MP camera on my next handset.
