OnePlus 8T Design
The OnePlus 8T is surrounded by extremely thin bezels and features a tiny punch-hole selfie camera on the left-hand side of its beautiful display.
The front and rear panels are glass, while the OnePlus' aluminum frame houses a power button and Alert Slider on the right, a volume rocker on the left, and the USB-C port on the bottom. Most likely, the bottom-firing speaker will produce stereo sound together with the earpiece speaker, for immersive media consumption or gaming, and we will tell you all about its sound when we get our review unit. The OnePlus flagship comes in the following color variants: Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver.
This year we will not be seeing a McLaren edition of the handset.
OnePlus 8T Display
The OnePlus 8T comes equipped with a gorgeous 6.55-inch AMOLED display, the same size as the one on the OnePlus 8. However, this time the display features a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and will support a Full-HD+ 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution with 402PPI, making us excited about the gaming and media consumption experience on this phone. What’s more, OnePlus says that the OnePlus 8T display earned an A+ score on DisplayMate.
Its peak brightness is 1,100 nits, and additionally OnePlus states that this smartphone features the best color accuracy in the mobile industry.
The CIE 1931 xy color gamut chart represents the set (area) of colors that a display can reproduce, with the sRGB colorspace (the highlighted triangle) serving as reference. The chart also provides a visual representation of a display's color accuracy. The small squares across the boundaries of the triangle are the reference points for the various colors, while the small dots are the actual measurements. Ideally, each dot should be positioned on top of its respective square. The 'x: CIE31' and 'y: CIE31' values in the table below the chart indicate the position of each measurement on the chart. 'Y' shows the luminance (in nits) of each measured color, while 'Target Y' is the desired luminance level for that color. Finally, 'ΔE 2000' is the Delta E value of the measured color. Delta E values of below 2 are ideal.
The Color accuracy chart gives an idea of how close a display's measured colors are to their referential values. The first line holds the measured (actual) colors, while the second line holds the reference (target) colors. The closer the actual colors are to the target ones, the better.
The Grayscale accuracy chart shows whether a display has a correct white balance (balance between red, green and blue) across different levels of grey (from dark to bright). The closer the Actual colors are to the Target ones, the better.
Indeed, we expect the OnePlus 8T to not lack any color accuracy or dynamics on that beautiful big display.
OnePlus 8T Camera
The modern design of the camera bump on the OnePlus 8T makes it distinguishable from the OnePlus 8. Its main camera features a 48MP sensor, accompanied by a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and both are complemented by a dedicated macro sensor and monochrome lens.
Additionally, OnePlus says the Nightscape mode has been improved for better night-time or low-light shots.
Improving the video experience is a new Video Portrait mode which assures the OnePlus 8T’s AI produces a natural-looking bokeh effect, accurately detecting and analyzing the human and blurring the background appropriately.
The phone’s selfie camera is equipped with a 16MP shooter. You might also want to see photo samples and an OnePlus 8T, Pixel 5 and Galaxy S20 FE camera comparison, and which phone does the better job in daylight, night photos, zoom, selfies, and portrait shots.
