I’m going to wait two years before considering an iPhone Duo, here’s why

The iPhone Duo is an impressive phone, don't get me wrong, but it's not the complete iPhone experience that people want.

The iPhone Duo is out and the long-awaited Apple foldable has dominated tech discourse online and is turning heads everywhere it goes. However, it won’t be until at least the third iteration of the Duo in 2028 that I think that the phone will become worth its mouthwatering asking price.

iPhone Duo 3 will likely be a complete package

While the iPhone Duo has impressed with how much Apple has been able to pack into it — MagSafe, for example — it’s still far from being a complete iPhone experience. Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max that have launched alongside it, the Duo does not have a telephoto lens or even Apple’s iconic Face ID.

Apple insider Mark Gurman, in his newsletter Power On, reckons that Apple will be able to fit in these two missing missing features by 2028, when it announces the iPhone Duo 3.

Would an iPhone Duo be worth it before these two features?

Face ID and a telephoto lens in a cramped space

The reason the iPhone Duo doesn’t have these two features already is because of space constraints. There simply isn’t enough space inside the phone, not to mention that Apple fans fear that the iPhone Duo won’t get Face ID for a very long time because it would need it both on the inside and the outside.

Gurman believes that Apple will be able to use further miniaturized components as well as improvements in its algorithms to fit these components inside the iPhone Duo 3.

Worth the wait for some

Apple’s new leasing program has made the iPhone Duo a lot more accessible despite its $1,999 starting price. However, if you would rather not opt into it, or if the program isn’t available in your region, then the iPhone Duo becomes a very expensive purchase.

It might be worth it for many customers to wait until the iPhone Duo 3 so that they get a much more complete package for their money.

Like I said, steer clear of first-generation products

As I’ve been saying for ages, you should always stay away from first-generation products. They’re incomplete, expensive, and new problems keep popping up.

The iPhone Duo is an impressive piece of kit, sure, but is it really worth the $2,000 if you’re not even getting the full Apple experience?
