Remember the open-ear Galaxy Buds rumor? Well, we now have new renders and specs! The latest leak shows the upcoming radical new Galaxy earbud design in more detail, along with some of its expected features. This suggests the Galaxy Buds On could be launching very soon.

We already knew the overall design thanks to the previous Galaxy Buds On graphics, found by our colleagues at SamMobile inside an unnamed Samsung app.
Now, SammyGuru has posted what looks like official product renders of the upcoming open-ear Galaxy Buds. The Galaxy Buds On appear to have a similar design to the Huawei FreeClip, with two rounded bulbs connected by a silicone loop.
The part housing the drivers is meant to sit on top of the ear canal (a part of the ear called concha), while the flat end containing the battery clips to the ear and sits behind it.
According to the leak, there will be two color variants: black and white. The black option is the one shown in the render, but SammyGuru claims there's a tip about a white version found inside the Buds Manager app.
Galaxy Buds On rumored features
The folks at SammyGuru managed to dig deep into the alleged Buds Manager app and find some of the upcoming features. The Buds On will support nod and shake gestures, the same ones Samsung introduced with the Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro.

A new feature called Auto Volume is also on the table, and according to strings of code found inside the app, this feature will increase the volume automatically in loud environments. Another similar feature, labeled Volume Boost, can also be found in the leaked code.

According to the leak, the Galaxy Buds On will support Gemini, and you will be able to summon it with your voice or a touch gesture. Voice recording is also on the table, with the ability to transcribe and potentially translate these recordings, though we don't know if a real-time voice translation feature is a possibility.
If you set up the touch-and-hold control for the voice recorder app, you can quickly start and stop the voice recorder with your earbuds. Recorded voice memos are automatically converted to text, and you can call Bixby to search them by voice without needing to take out your phone.

There's a hint about another interesting feature inside the strings of code—one that's labeled "Pause media while you’re asleep." As the name suggests, this feature pauses all music, media, or podcasts you're listening to once you've fallen asleep.
It's not clear how that moment is determined, but it might use other Galaxy gadgets in the ecosystem, such as a Galaxy Watch. This new feature reportedly requires One UI 9.0 or newer.
Sadly, there's no mention of active noise cancellation of any kind, but that's understandable given the open-ear design of the buds.

The Galaxy Buds On have already cleared India's BIS certification under model number SM-U600. The buds' firmware was also found sitting on servers in India, Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia, so a launch could be imminent.
I'm quite excited about it because I just can't use in-ear headphones. My ears start to hurt in 10–15 minutes, no matter what tip size I try. The Huawei FreeClip was great in terms of design, but there was much to be desired in the sound department. I hope Samsung solves this issue and offers us a genuinely quality alternative to in-ear headphones. Fingers crossed for a decent price tag, as well.
