According to a new report (translated source), Samsung is shrinking the front selfie camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Wide Fold. Leaked design renders show the difference to be quite significant, with the new camera helping the phones achieve a much sleeker look.

These reports suggest that Samsung is aiming for parity between its upcoming foldables. Aside from how they unfold and the aspect ratios of their displays, everything else will likely be exactly the same.
It further gives credence to the suspicion that the only reason Samsung is making the Galaxy Z Wide Fold is to compete directly with Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra. Huawei has also done the same with its newly released Pura X Max.
Moving towards a cutout-free display?
Some time back, reports came out about Apple’s plans for the iPhone 20 Pro. This Pro model would release in 2027 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone.
It was said to feature a flawless edge-to-edge display that would have no punch holes or a Dynamic Island. The company was supposed to start transitioning its phones towards this Pro model with this year’s iPhone 18 Pro having an under-display Face ID component and a smaller Dynamic Island.
Unfortunately, Apple is facing some technological challenges for the moment and this might not come to pass. However, Samsung’s size reduction of the front camera means that it might be eying a similar future for its flagship smartphones as well.
What features did you want to see on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Wide Fold?
Bring it on!
This is the kind of innovation I love seeing. I really hope that Samsung is aiming for cutout-free displays as well, as I’ve always disliked the trend of notches and punch holes.
Even if it isn’t, though, the Fold 8 and the Wide Fold will still look sleeker than their predecessors. And that’s a pretty neat upgrade on its own.
