It’s official, even Apple has acknowledged it, the iPhone Duo tends to crack after a few hours of use. What first appeared to be a few isolated incidents has grown into a larger collection of broken foldable iPhones all across the world.

The iPhone Duo’s tendency to break is keeping us away

In a recent poll, we asked you what the biggest problem on the iPhone Duo was right now. Over 78 percent of you said what I believe is the obvious answer, the iPhone Duo’s tendency to break is an alarming issue.
A critical design flaw in the iPhone Duo’s hinge has resulted in a significant number of units cracking right down the middle of the internal folding display. Something inside the hinge seemingly gets dislodged, pushing up against the screen until it breaks.
The result is a phone with lines and dead pixels streaming across its main display. Said display also oftentimes simply becomes unresponsive or goes blank.

Then there are the other oversights and shortcomings

Though breaking and becoming an unusable brick is a huge problem, the iPhone Duo also has other minor oversights and shortcomings that users take issue with.

Over 10 percent of you said that the cameras on the Duo just aren’t that great for this price tag. I agree, the lack of a telephoto is one thing, but the Galaxy Z Fold 8 at least has a much better camera on the internal display. Apple’s decision to go with an under-display camera is respectable but we can’t overlook how it performs.
Over eight percent of respondents said that the biggest problem on the iPhone Duo today is how apps look on it. Most apps run in a standard candy bar smartphone layout even on the internal display while the side bar on the external display wastes a lot of screen real estate. Still, at least this is something that will hopefully be fixed very soon.
Lastly, less than three percent of voters said that the iPhone Duo was uncomfortable to hold and use. It seems Apple got that part right if only a few people find it bothersome. What about you?

I don’t think I’m being unreasonable when I say that Apple needs to get on top of the cracking issue straight away. Thankfully, it appears that the company is shipping broken Duos to California to study what went wrong.
First-generation products are often troublesome but this was just too much. If I were you, I’d definitely get a Galaxy Z Fold 8 instead or just wait until the iPhone Duo 2 comes out.
