It appears that Apple is having another week of product launches, following the release of the iPhone Duo and the iOS 27.2 software update. Ahead of the “Pro and Tell” event that’s scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 28, and right after the announcement of the iPad mini 8 with OLED display, the company just updated its iMac and MacBook Pro lineups.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro is getting M6 chips and faster memory
Apple just updated the entry-level MacBook Pro models, giving them the M6 chips that were first introduced for the Mac Mini in August. Just like last year, the new 14-inch MacBook Pro doesn’t have any design changes, but thanks to the Apple N1 wireless chip it now supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
The highlight is the М6 chip, which comes with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine system. Apple is putting a big focus on the chip’s AI capabilities in its announcement, saying it turns the MacBook Pro into “an even more powerful platform for AI.”
While the base version of the laptop comes with 16GB of shared memory, the models with 24GB and 32GB of memory get an upgrade from 153GB/s to 170GB/s memory bandwidth. The base storage is 1TB, and the starting price for the version with 16GB memory remains $1,999. Bumping the memory to 24GB puts the price at $2,199, and the 32GB model is $2,399.

Apple also announced new iMac models with M6 chips, which is the first upgrade to the all-in-one desktop since 2024. Similar to the base MacBook, the iMac hasn’t seen much of a change, and it’s even offered in the same colors.
Alongside the faster M6 chips, the iMac also has Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip, expanding Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support to the base models. Similar to the M4 iMac, you get two Thunderbolt ports with the 10-core version of the chip, with four ports being available only with the 12-core upgrade.
The M6 iMac with 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU will start at the same $1,499 as the 8-core M4 iMac. The 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU version starts at $1,699. Apple is also now charging extra for some customizations, like changing the Magic Mouse for a Magic Trackpad, which would cost you $50. Ethernet connectivity now comes at 2.5 gigabits, but it costs $30 extra.
We’re most likely getting the touchscreen MacBook tomorrow

While there won’t be a full-blown keynote, Apple has already announced an event called “Pro and Tell,” which will be held tomorrow, October 28. Similar to the “Welcome home” product launch earlier this month, the company is expected to demonstrate several new products, including the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac with M6 chips, and the OLED iPad mini.
According to earlier rumors, the highlight at this event will be the long-rumored MacBook with a touchscreen display and OLED panel. This model might come with a Dynamic Island, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and even a new name.
Expectations for the new model are quite mixed among Apple fans. Some people on Reddit are worried about the price, while others don’t see the point of adding a touchscreen at all, especially if this doesn’t include a complete redesign of the laptop.

At least we didn’t get another price bump
I don’t think anyone is surprised by this update to the 14-inch MacBook and the iMac, but I’m still happy we didn’t get another price increase. Apple already increased the starting price of the MacBook Pro by $400 in June, so things aren’t getting worse again. My only worry is that the touchscreen laptop won’t follow the same pattern.
