It would be fair to say that the iPhone Duo is up to a shaky start, with the messy pre-orders and the multiple reports for broken displays. Meanwhile, everything seems much less turbulent on the software side, with the first major iOS 27 update adding several great new features to the foldable iPhone and Siri AI.
iPhone Duo gets Apple Pencil support with iOS 27.2
When Apple announced the iPhone Duo, the company promised that it would support Apple Pencil “later this year.” Considering the vague estimate, nobody expected that the feature would arrive only a few days after the official launch of the company’s first foldable.
However, that’s exactly what happened as the newly released iOS 27.2 brings Apple Pencil support to the iPhone Duo. With the latest software, you can use an Apple Pencil (USB-C) on both the outer and inner displays of the foldable, making it the first time an iPhone supports an Apple-made stylus.

The other set of significant changes to iOS 27.2 are focused on Siri AI. The smarter assistant is now available in the following new languages:
French
Japanese
Korean
Portuguese
Spanish
In today’s update, Apple also promised to expand the supported languages by the end of the year. Siri AI should also be available in Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese. In the footnotes of its announcement, Apple says that Siri AI is unavailable in the EU.

With the new update, Siri AI can also retain some context from previous conversations and tap into more personal context sources. Those include details like photos attached in iMessage, voicemails, Safari history, and Calendar event attendees.
While it’s too early to have strong impressions of the stable version of iOS 27.2, the Release Candidate version got mostly positive comments from users on Reddit using the beta versions of iOS. While some issues seemed to remain unresolved, many users were impressed with the battery performance of the new update.

There are other notable updates, too
Besides the major changes, Apple has also introduced many smaller updates. Among them are support for Google’s AI watermarking system SynthID in Photos and Image Playground, and the “Edge Light” feature for the iPhone Duo. Thanks to the latter, you can get your face illuminated when having video calls on the foldable, just like on a Mac.
The Apple TV app on the iPhone now supports user profiles, and the “Up Next” queue in the Podcasts app is replaced with a “New Episodes” list and a “Continue Playing” section. Apple Music has a new black icon, which isn’t exactly a favorite among fans of the streaming service. Finally, FaceTime now allows you to turn on both the selfie and the back cameras during group calls.
That’s how updates should be released by everyone
One thing I love about Apple updates is that they’re instantly available for all supported devices. Regardless of whether you’re rocking an iPhone 11 or an iPhone 18 Pro Max, you can install iOS 27.2 right now. Android smartphone manufacturers should finally start doing the same.
