HTC 8S announced: more colors to the Windows Phone 8 masses

HTC 8S announced: more colors to the Windows Phone 8 masses
The HTC Windows Phone 8S, the more affordable new Windows Phone 8 smartphone by HTC, has just been unveiled and it will enter direct competition with the Nokia Lumia 820.

The HTC 8S has a funky design with a brightly colored contrasted chin and a vividly colored earpiece. The device is pretty light at just 113 grams.

The hardware doesn’t shoot for the stars - instead it caters to budget minded consumers. We have a 4-inch WVGA (that’s 480 x 800 pixels) screen, a Snapdragon S4 chip with a 1.0GHz dual-core Krait processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage that you can expand via microSD cards. There is a removable panel at the bottom where HTC has placed the micro SIM and microSD card slots. The battery is not removable, though.

HTC is including Beats Audio technology on this device to manage to differentiate itself in the Windows Phone arena.

At the back, we have a 5-megapixel camera with f/2.8 aperture, recording videos at 720p. One sore omission is a front facing camera, so there is no easy way to make video calls and make use of the built in Skype client.

The HTC 8S comes in four colors. You can pick between Domino, Fiesta Red, Atlantic Blue, and High-Rise Gray.

We don't yet have the price for the HTC Windows Phone 8S, but its release date is set for early November, so we should know it pretty soon.

I agree completely! But that resolution is a deal breaker. I don't want a new phone with a ppi below 300 when going into 2013.

the color combination are really nice! but for me any bright color mix with black (yellow, blue, pink, lavander) will look very attractive and with white, dark colors!!

the earpiece of this series is the worst thing, imo.

And the ppi is 233, a serious disappointment! HTC is releasing Lumia 800 and 900 in WP8...except for the looks...and some minor changes.

is HTC lost their mind? mid range for this specs? no front camera? #FAIL #EPICFAIL lumia 820 will eat this alive! and even the oh-so rumored nokia's low end zeal and flame (if they came out true next year) coz nokia's low end will be the same specs like the 8S!1ghz processor and 512mb ram and 4gb and 8gb memory are the difference!! and at least maybe front facing camera but really like the design and colors though! but i have my money and eyes for nokia lumia!

" One sore omission is a front facing camera, so there is no easy way to make video calls and make use of the built in Skype client." omission means remove or excluded... so no front camera! so this phone should not be place on mid range!! it's specs are low end! if its pricepoint is similar to lumia 820 then this is dead!! this should be price like the lumia 710 or 610!why? coz the umcoming low end of nokia lumia that will replace these two has the same features on 8S 1ghz dual core, 512 ram and 4gb/8gb memory!

This is just down right sexy. I will settle with a 4 inch screen for this much of sleekness and sexyness.

gorgeous design! honestly, 8S's design is better than the flagship 8X. Hmm, do I smell a strategy here?

8X is the lighter version of lumia 920!! but im still going for lumia 920 than 8X... but i wonder why only 2 devices are announce.. i thought it would be 3..

i'd go for the lumia 920 vs the 8X too. but if i have to choose between lumia 820 and 8S, i honestly think that i would have to go with the 8S. they should have switched the design of 8X and 8S.

they all look great! but lumia 820 vs 8S.. you'll pick 8S? really? i think its suicide! no front facing camera.. " One sore omission is a front facing camera, so there is no easy way to make video calls and make use of the built in Skype client." underpowered specs for a midrange... if lumia 820 and 8S is at the same price bracket or almost the same price then go for 820! atleast it is same with 920 but no pureview but atleast 8MP 1gb of ram 1.5ghz dual core and with micro SD slot! if you could wait till next year, they wait for lumia low end! coz 8S's specs are low end of the rumored nokia flame and zeal!

Wow, this is one sexy ass phone. If it had a 4.3" screen and higher resolution (and FFC), I'd definitely buy this. They should have used this design for the 8X.

i think they sould've given the design of this one to the 8X...because this one looks more beautiful.

Now I´m pissed!!!!! This phone is just a masterpiece in terms of design, but what about these crappy specs?? No FFC? Why this one isn´t the flagship??? Oh come on, HTC now I´m not feeling like getting any!!! The 8X is not ugly, but not nearly as beautiful as this one! The black/white is just PERFECT!

It's almost like they made this because they had to, not because they wanted to. No front cam? WVGA? Ugh. Microsoft sez: "You make this and we won't charge you an arm and a leg for Android license fees". It's almost passive aggressive in design.
