Verizon concept store is very Applesque
Regardless of how you feel about Apple as a company, the one thing you can't argue with is the exceptional design quality of everything Apple from the devices all the way up to the Apple Stores themselves. It's also one of the things that you rarely see competitors copying, because Apple design tends to be so unique. However, it looks like Verizon wants to make its stores a bit more Appley.

Sure, the reality is that all Verizon has done to its stores is take out some clutter, add some empty space and some tables to display devices, but the overall effect is still quite similar to that of an Apple Store. The movement lines around the store are clearer. It's easier to get an understanding of where everything is from a glance. And, there are big visual splashes with posters on the walls. It's brightly lit, with clean white tables, and hardwood flooring.

Overall, it looks quite good, and definitely an improvement over traditional Verizon store layouts. The first concept store, called "Evolution 2.0" (which is a name so ridiculous that we intend never to use it again), is in Toms River, New Jersey. The store is 3100 square feet and will have 21 full time employees. And, Verizon is also making the store completely paperless and have teaching workshops just like Apple Stores.

As of now, this is just a concept store, and there's no guarantee that Verizon will continue the redesign in other stores, but frankly we hope that these changes make their way to more Verizon stores and more companies in general. There will undoubtedly be plenty of people to claim that Verizon and others are just copying Apple, but these are changes that make perfect sense, and really should become ubiquitous. Why wouldn't customers want stores that are easier to navigate, have more helpful options, and are less wasteful? It's just common sense.

Yeah, Apple store designs are nice, until someone decides to break in. Their store layout helped a team of thrives clean one in New Jersey out in record time a few years back.

Why do people have to find a negative in everything Apple does. Don't you have anything better to do?

I agree with you...

It's not really a negative. It's just a fun fact. I like the layout of Apple stores. Best Buy has a similar layout.

"Yeah, Apple store designs are nice"... Nice!

"...until someone decides to break in." Negative!

Well, do you deny that the design of Apple stores makes them supremely easy to break in and swipe all their demo units in, like, ten minutes flat?

In fact, here's the news story, with video. They were able to smash the front window, run right in, go right down the tables and nail all the demos (because the magnetic chargers are easy to pop off the units) and run out. All within THIRTY SECONDS.

You're really spending a lot of time explaining this "fun fact".

well why shouldnt he? he's got people arguing over something as simple and obvious that apple stores are too easy to break in to.

Snigg gets a thumbs up from me

because apple is worse than microsoft? why wouldnt we wanna spend time watching apple fans get offended that their religion is being picked at.

bow to the apple my friends

Its not really an applesque design in the first place, Bell, Telus and Rogers stores in Canada have that exact same design (bit smaller) and its been that way for a while. This is nothing new at all

Back around 2000 there was a Gateway computer store in town with very similar layouts, more laptops and desktops of course, but very open, little clutter, etc. I don't know how long Apple stores have been around. Sadly I live in a technology behind area and we didn't get one here until about three years ago. Though I know Gateway stores were around way before 2000 but unsure if they used the same layout elsewhere, all this said to agree with Mario1017 that it is nothing new.

That has jack (censored) to do with the article.

I think companies need to find their own identities instead of copy Apple. One of the reasons Apple is so popular is they're unique.

5. MichaelHeller posted on 14 Feb 2012, 16:16 10 6

Apple isn't popular because it is unique. It's popular because it is easy to use and has the craziest marketing juggernaut around.

Besides, every store should go paperless and give more services to help customers understand and learn to use the products. That's not "copying Apple", that's just smart business.

10. dreammixer posted on 14 Feb 2012, 16:32 9 2

You yourself wrote the layout of the store is Applesque. Apple does make great products true, but they also make unique products and they're not afraid to take chances. Verizon can go paperless without copying the design and layout of an Apple store. Microsoft tried the same thing recently by making their stores replicas of Apple stores.

Also look at the tablet game and how many got into after Apple with the vast majority failing. Kindle fire has been successful by making a unique product and not necessarily trying to be like Apple.

actually the Kindle Fire was successful by giving you a lot of bang for the buck as far as the hardware to what you pay for it. And the amazon app store, kindle, etc. services helped give it a good ecosystem too.

14. gallitoking posted on 14 Feb 2012, 17:44 3

so you are telling me it was not regarding specs? that the Kindle sold well.. are you hearing that Android?...

16. dreammixer posted on 14 Feb 2012, 17:50 4 2

Very good point Gallito. The best selling android tablet by far also has the worst specs.

17. KingKurogiii posted on 14 Feb 2012, 17:56 3 3

actually the Kindle Fire has some of the best specs. it's a good deal more powerful than your run of the mill Tegra II tablets like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the XOOM. the only ones more powerful are the Xyboards, the Prime and the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
