New details on the Palm Pre features
We know how painful waiting can be and that´s why we had to dig out info on the golden boy, the Palm Pre. We came across a posting by InsideSprintNow, revealing details on a number of features that would hopefully make they way to the final Pre unit. First off, you’ll have the Office 2007 support fully working, which sounds great, but there’ll also be the cool backup feature that would not cost anything. A few other basic features have also been confirmed by the source, including different colors of your calendar appointments, customizable ringtones, multiple IM conversations and picture messaging (through MMS). On the other hand, video recording and Pictbridge (wireless transfer of images to a printer) seem to have dropped out of the set of goodies coming with the Palm Pre, so you will have to look for additional updates after sales launch.

....are you kidding? No video recording on it? This has to be a joke...I can't WAIT for this thing to come out.

i agree. no video on a smartphone, is like a day without sunshine

who uses video calling? You're probably the same type that will never get a phone that doesn't have video out! lol.. No one uses these technologies! (And yes, a few odd people will say they do use video calls, but the truth is, it's still far too expensive and last time i used it - granted it was 5 years ago lol - the quality didn't even make it worth while!)

read the post correctly... both heavybreathing and rshackindian didn't say anything about video calling, they were talking about capability of recording video, and yes it is damn useful... i use vzw omnia and i use mine to send a video messages to my family and couple of my friends who god unlimited data pack so i don't get blamed for sending a huge sized video msg... Anyways, this palm pre looks so nice... :)

It is very odd that Palm would leave out video. The Pre looks great!!

Yeah I have the iphone and I do miss video recording. My friend has video recording on his jailbroken iphone (and its really really good quality, but it blurs quickly with movements that are too fast) but I felt like Apple should have put one in the phone to begin with if it is possible to get through 3rd party apps. But one of the features that the Pre had that I hope the iphone gets is the different colors for calendar appointments. i don't want to have microsoft office before I can use a simple feature like that. But I hope these two things will be covered in the next iphone.

Just curious about something so if anyone can answer a question I have, that would be great. Is the video not enabled but future updates could enable that feature? Or will we just have to buy the second version of the Pre that may have video capabilities?

I'm sure you'll be able to get video recording if you're willing to get it through another avenue outside of an official Palm route. I've had video recording on my iPhone forever and they will only be making it standard when they release their next version expected in June.

15. Keepin_Real posted on 06 May 2009, 12:48

Yeah there would be a way around that. And the video recording is not of a problem just was curious if it was either a function not enabled or just built in the Pre.

16. Keepin_Real posted on 06 May 2009, 13:01

Yeah I wondered the same but most likely it was not built in. It's pretty cheesy not to include it if you ask me. MMS should be pretty standard with phones like this one.

5. bigfanboyred posted on 06 May 2009, 09:08

it has to have video. smartphones, dumbphones, for God sake, this is 2009! must be a mistake. but then again, look at the iphone. how long did it take them to come up with simple "cut and paste"!

6. DonLouie posted on 06 May 2009, 09:29

There will have to be an update for the video thing

7. sonisoe posted on 06 May 2009, 09:37

i think there will be recording but to me its not that important.... the software looks powerful as we all know, just hope that there's no glitch.... any slight downside would be, looks like it always takes just a little bit longer to open applications which we don't seem to experience on android or symbian s60 mobilephones. hope this will be fixed though.

i'm seriously about to give up on this phone. i'm so over the waiting. it would be one thing if they would announce the damn release date. but this waiting...and waiting...and waiting is getting OLD! i'm over it. stop keeping us in limbo and give us a date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

13. SellPhones82 posted on 06 May 2009, 11:41

June 7th at the earliest and June 28 at the latest. Launch date depends on stock on hand as of those dates. Units have and are arriving at the main logistics Hub in Louisville but only a few thousand or less at a time. A release date is great until that date arrives and product/supply is not what they should be. Then you have two options release it anyway half-assed or move the release date back. If you move it back you get even more speculation as to why the release date was moved back. They will give a release date once they know they can meet it. In January they said first half on 09 which means they still have 45 days left as of today. Anyone that thought "first half of 09" could mean the phone would be released in February, March, and April was being over optimistic.

9. stuntz posted on 06 May 2009, 10:52

shut up do you want them to release the phone and have it not be ready, because people keep bitching about release dates? Thats what i thought!

10. realism121 posted on 06 May 2009, 11:05

at this point if it's not ready, then palm has SERIOUS problems. they announced the phone almost 8 months ago. please don't get me wrong...i want this phone. i'm going to buy the phone. but if the reason that they are not announcing a release date is because the phone isn't ready, then don't ya think they may have jumped the gun when they announced the phone in october?

12. *HOVA* posted on 06 May 2009, 11:19

Yea, wouldn't want it to end up like the Storm would you??

14. Keepin_Real posted on 06 May 2009, 12:43

Yeah I will wait too. Just get it right and I'm SOOOOO there with Spirnt!
