Last month, ZTE became the first manufacturer to unveil a smartphone with Force Touch when it introduced the ZTE Axon Mini. As many of you know by now, Force Touch is supposed to be one of the new features offered on the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus. Already available on the Apple Watch, Force Touch allows the screen to differentiate between a regular tap and a harder tap on the display. For example, while watching a YouTube video, a regular tap could start the clip while a harder tap on the same spot could fast forward the video.
Today, a device with the model number ZTE B2015 has been certified by Chinese regulatory agency TENAA. Since the A2015 is the ZTE Axon Pro, the chances are good that the phone that visited TENAA is the ZTE Axon Mini. This model is equipped with a 5.2-inch OLED display carrying a resolution of 1080 x 1920. That works out to a 424ppi pixel density. An octa-core 1.5GHz CPU is under the hood with 3GB of RAM inside. 16GB of internal storage is on board, and those seeking more can turn to the 128GB capacity microSD slot.
The rear-facing camera is 8MP or more, and the front-facing camera is 8MP. The unit does support 4G LTE connectivity and Android 5.1.1 is pre-installed. The Axon Mini is 7.9mm thin and weighs in at 150 grams. It will be available in a gold color.
The big question is whether the ZTE Axon Mini goes on sale before September 11th, which is the date when the new iPhone models are rumored to be available for pre-orders. At stake is the right to be called the first smartphone with Force Touch to go on sale. Pricing remains unknown for now.
