DivX playback support expected in a future update for the HTC Desire
If you've got a stockpile of videos that are encoded in DivX and intently eying the HTC Desire as a potential future handset, you're in luck because it seems like something is cooking up down the road for this Android powered phone. Even though the HTC Desire might be considered one powerhouse of a phone that offers a lot of features, it's lacking on the DivX support right out of the box. Fortunately though, it looks like it'll be added in a future update; although it's still unheard whether or not 720p encoding capabilities will be included in the same update. One of the possible reasons why the handset, which was unveiled during MWC, lacked DivX support was that HTC didn't have enough time to actually finalize the feature before gearing up to launch the handset. It'll be anyone's guess when we'll see this update become reality as the HTC Desire and Legend are expected to splash into the market some time in Spring; probably March.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know, none of the Android handsets support DivX. This would be the first..

It's just the more I see/hear about this phone, the more it appears to be my perfect handset for the moment.
