Canadian carrier Fido in the doghouse after charging customers for something they didn't use
Fido, the Canadian carrier owned by Rogers, has pulled a boner which has put the mobile operator in the doghouse (Come on, with a name like Fido how could we refrain from writing that line?) A small number of Apple iPhone users were charged for data roaming even though the 'Data Roaming' switch was turned off on their handset.

As a result of this faux pas, some Fido customers received the "$7.99/50MB" charge on their bill for data roaming, with some getting charged for several days even when as little as 20KB of data had been used. And considering that Apple says that disabling data roaming prevents data from being used on an iPhone in a foreign land (unless Wi-Fi is in use, of course), the fault lies with Fido.

Fido is already doing the right thing as it has started "proactively crediting customers who were wrongly charged for U.S. roaming when data roaming was turned off while they were in the U.S." If you are a Fido customer and recently took your iPhone south of the border, you should check your bill to make sure that you weren't charged for data roaming when no roaming data was used. And even though the carrier is being proactive, it wouldn't hurt to let them know if you find unwarranted charges on your bill.
