Apple iPhone 13 Overview
The iPhone 13 comes with a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display covered with Ceramic Shield, called Super Retina XDR display, which comes with a traditional 60Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision HDR.
Under the hood is the Apple A15 Bionic chipset, which is equipped with a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine, as well as 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
The iPhone 13 is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage. In most regions, the iPhone 13 is a dual SIM phone, with a nano SIM and eSIM. Wi-Fi calling, Face ID, and Apple Pay are also on board. There's an NFC chip, too, thanks to which Apple Pay works.
The phone comes with a dual-camera system, consisting of a 12MP F1.6 wide-angle and another 12MP F2.4 ultra-wide camera with True Tone flash and lens correction. Both rear cameras have larger sensors with improved light sensitivity and Dolby Vision HDR video recording, but only digital zoom and no optical zoom.
Photographic styles allow users to fine tune the appearance of photos, while cinematic mode allows for beautiful portrait lighting video. Night mode is on deck, and so is Portrait mode, which has various modes like stage mono, high key, low key mono, and more.
The front-facing ultra-wide camera is a 12MP F2.2 one. The iPhone 13 video recording supports 4K videos at 60fps as well as 1080p video at up to 240fps.
The iPhone 13 comes with a 3,227mAh battery, a 15% increase over the 2,815mAh one of the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 officially supports 18W fast charging and can get charged with USB Power Delivery through a USB-C to Lightning cable. USB Power Delivery will charge up roughly 60% within 30 minutes, which is considered rather fast charging for the latest iPhone models. Battery life was much improved over the iPhone 12. However, there's no power adapter in the box, only an USB-C to Lightning cable.
Design-wise, the phone closely follows the iPhone 12 and has a flat design with a display notch at the front. The device has IP68 water and dust resistance. In terms of changes with the previous iPhone 12 model, the iPhone 13 has a notch that is narrower than previous generations, but still houses an ambient light sensor and TrueDepth camera for Face ID unlocking and Apple Pay verification. The front camera also supports 4K@60fps video recording.
Audio playback is ensured thanks to stereo speakers, while video playback makes good use of the Dolby Vision display. The iPhone 13 was initially available in Midnight (black), Starlight (white), Blue, Pink, and Product RED colors. Six months after its release, Apple added a green color option to the lineup.
The iPhone 13 came with iOS 15 out of the box but will receive up to five additional iterations of the software, starting with iOS 16 in September 2022.
Some of the new features arriving with iOS 16 are lockscreen customization, enhanced notifications, as well as other quality-of-life improvements. Improvements to Face ID and Apple Pay are part of iOS 16.
