Two more Android brands are finally getting Google’s best new feature

One of Google’s best new features is at last spreading beyond Pixel and Galaxy phones.

Google launched the Quick Share update that allowed Pixel 10 phones to share files with Apple devices over AirDrop last year. As exciting as that update was, it took some time before we saw the feature coming to more devices.

Even months later, the number of Android phones with AirDrop support is still limited and barely includes the Galaxy S26Galaxy S25 and Pixel 9 phones. Now, that list is expanding with the devices of two more brands.

Vivo and Oppo get AirDrop support

Oppo has apparently started rolling out AirDrop support for its Find X9 Ultra flagship. The device launched last week, and according to an Android Central report, it’s capable of exchanging files with an iPhone Air without any problems.

Another recent Ultra flagship also has the feature available. The Vivo X300 Ultra also seems to support AirDrop over Quick Share, which is a clear signal that Google is expanding the feature well beyond its own phones.

Switching gears

While no other Google manufacturers have said they’d support AirDrop over Quick Share, most probably the list will grow over the coming months. The OnePlus 15 is one of the most likely devices to get the feature, considering it’s closely related to Oppo.

That’s also a positive step towards unifying the Android world. Most Chinese manufacturers are still dependent on their own file transfer systems, which creates unnecessary segregation in the Android ecosystem.

Double benefit

By switching to Google’s solution, those companies are getting a double benefit from Quick Share. Their phones will be able to share files with Apple devices, but they’ll also get easier access to other Android phones.

Google has already hinted that the feature may extend to more phones in the coming months. If more manufacturers get it, that would be a rare win for interoperability between competing smartphones.

Update the old devices

Look, getting the feature on the fanciest new smartphones is great, but I’d be very excited only when the most popular mid-range phones from the last few years get it too. I just don't think it makes sense for such a basic feature to stay locked behind a premium price tag.
