New report suggests Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 prices will be just as bad as you think
Samsung's fast-approaching 2026 foldables will reportedly be pretty expensive in South Korea, which means there's little hope for the rest of the world.

While both new and old tech products are getting more expensive practically every day now, some recent price hikes have obviously proven more painful than others. The same will likely be true for a host of mobile devices expected to be released in the coming months, and alas, all the signs point towards Samsung's next-gen foldables falling in the "more painful" category around the world.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra could be around $130 costlier than their predecessors
Before you start hyperventilating or trying to find places where you can sell a kidney in 2026, allow me to highlight that the US price tags of the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7's sequels haven't technically leaked out yet. But a fairly trustworthy source (translated here) claims this is how much Samsung's best new foldables will cost in South Korea:
Galaxy Z Flip 8 - 1,683,000 won ($1,097);
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra - 2,577,000 won ($1,680).
Are you excited for any of Samsung's impending foldables?
Now, I know exactly what you're thinking. $1,680 wouldn't be such a bad price point for the state-of-the-art Z Fold 8 Ultra. In fact, it would be pretty awesome. Unfortunately, that's not how these things work. Instead, to get a fairly accurate idea of how much the new foldable super-flagship could cost stateside, we need to remember its predecessor's launch price in Samsung's homeland last year.
Galaxy Z Flip 7 - 1,485,000 won;
Galaxy Z Fold 7 - 2,379,000 won.
That's right, I'm afraid that the Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 are likely to cost nearly 200,000 Korean won more than the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, respectively, in their entry-level configurations. That currently equates to roughly $130, and if history is any indication, it means that US prices could rise by anywhere between $150 and $200.
What about the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide)?
Although the entire mobile tech-leaking world seems to agree that the device formerly known as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide or Galaxy Z Wide Fold will ultimately go official under the simple (but somewhat confusing) Galaxy Z Fold 8 name, today's Korean pricing-focused report curiously refers to the Z Fold 8 Ultra's slightly humbler brother as the "Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide" again.

What's far more important to discuss than Samsung's final branding convention, of course, is how much this Z Fold 8 (Wide) model will cost. And that's apparently 2,278,000 won ($1,485) with 256GB internal storage space. That would represent a small but notable price reduction from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at launch, although I'm not entirely sure it's fair to compare the two products for fairly obvious reasons related to their designs and specs.
And what about higher storage variants?
The bad news doesn't stop at the most affordable Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra configurations, as upgrading from 256 to 512 gigs of storage will reportedly set you back an extra 253,000 won ($165) in South Korea across Samsung's 2026 foldable portfolio.
The Z Fold 8 Ultra will definitely look great, but will it be great enough to justify its prices? | Image by AndroidHeadlines
That's quite a premium, but it's of course no big surprise in the context of industry-wide memory cost increases. Still, it's definitely worth pointing out that a 512GB Galaxy Z Flip 7 used to be just 158,000 won more expensive than an entry-level variant with 256 gigs of storage... before a recent price hike.
It looks like the full release schedule is also out
July 22 - London announcement;
July 28 - pre-order start;
August 4 - pre-activation for pre-order customers;
August 7 - general release.
Are any of those dates official? Not yet. Is the schedule likely? Very much so, especially as far as the July 22 Unpacked date is concerned. Pre-orders are then very likely to kick off around the world on July 28, which would mark an interesting change of strategy for Samsung after the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 were unveiled on July 9, 2025 and put up for pre-order on the same day.
Much like their predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 are expected to need around two weeks to start shipping to their earliest global adopters after their formal announcement, so if you want to be one of the first in the world to own one of these bad boys, it might be a good idea to start saving up (ideally, while not giving up any internal organs).
